Governor of Enugu seeks support of Nigerian Navy and Air Force to tackle insecurity in the state

The Governor of Enugu State, Dr. Peter Mbah, has visited the Chief of the Naval Staff, Rear Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla, and the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Vice Marshal Hassan Abubakar, in Abuja to seek their support in the fight against insecurity in Enugu State and the South East region.

During his visit, Governor Mbah emphasized the importance of tightening the security architecture and mobilizing security agencies to effectively address the security challenges plaguing the state. He expressed his belief that achieving the socio-economic prosperity outlined for Enugu State is closely tied to resolving the issue of insecurity.

The Governor called for a collaborative approach, requesting the Navy to partner with the state in areas necessary for achieving the common goal of a unified, peaceful, and secure nation.

Rear Admiral Ogalla assured the Governor of the Navy's determination to contribute to ending insecurity. He disclosed plans to establish a permanent naval base in Enugu State as part of efforts to enhance peace and security in the region.

In addition, Governor Mbah expressed his gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for appointing an Enugu indigene as the Chief of the Naval Staff. He believed such inclusive gestures would promote national healing, peace, and security.

The Governor's visit to the Chief of the Air Staff aimed to strengthen collaboration in combating insecurity in Enugu State. As the state hosts an Air Force Base and schools, there is a need for a strong relationship with the Air Force on internal security and other areas of mutual interest.

Air Vice Marshal Hassan Abubakar pledged the support of the Air Force in the Governor's efforts to make Enugu State peaceful and suitable for socio-economic development and investments.

The issue of sit-at-home orders also featured prominently in Governor Mbah's visit. He stressed that such orders were a disservice to the state's socio-economic prosperity and urged all stakeholders to work together to restore normalcy and guarantee the safety of residents and visitors.

The fight against insecurity in Enugu State and the wider South East region requires a comprehensive approach. It involves the collective efforts of the state government, security agencies, and cooperation from the federal authorities.
