Fulani Herdsmen Attack: 10 Killed in Plateau State, Nigeria
Gunmen suspected to be Fulani herdsmen have attacked Kulben community in Plateau State, Nigeria, resulting in the deaths of 10 people. The attack occurred on Sunday night, with an unspecified number of individuals injured and property destroyed. Community leaders are organizing a mass burial for the victims. The incident underscores the ongoing tensions and violence experienced in the region.

Gunmen suspected to be Fulani herdsmen have launched a brutal attack on the Kulben community in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State, Nigeria. The assault, which took place on Sunday night, resulted in the deaths of 10 individuals, while others sustained injuries and property was destroyed in the process.

The armed Fulani militia attacked Kulben village at approximately 10 p.m., leaving a trail of destruction in their wake. The victims were reportedly attacked while guarding the community, highlighting the vulnerable position they found themselves in.

According to a resident, Nanret Ishaya, "Ten people were killed, others injured, and properties destroyed during the attack. The community is currently making arrangements for a mass burial to honor the victims of this senseless act of violence."

While efforts to obtain an official statement from the Media Officer of Operation Safe Haven, Captain James Oya, were unsuccessful, Alfred Alabo, the spokesman of the Plateau State Police Command, confirmed the incident. He stated, "We are aware that something happened last Sunday night. The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) has been on-site since 2 a.m. We are awaiting his report at the headquarters."

In addition to the police report, the Chairman of the Mwaghavul Development Association in Kombun District, Dr. Elisha, also verified the attack, saying, "From the information I received, 10 persons were killed during the invasion. I am currently en route to the village."

Such attacks and acts of violence perpetrated by Fulani herdsmen have become a recurring issue in many parts of Nigeria, causing loss of lives, displacement of communities, and destruction of property. The government and security agencies continue to grapple with finding a lasting solution to the problem.

The incident in Kulben is just one example of the ongoing tensions between nomadic Fulani herders and various farming communities, resulting in clashes that escalate into deadly violence.

While the motivations behind the attack remain unclear, it underscores the need for increased security measures and proactive peace-building efforts in affected regions. The loss of innocent lives and the destruction of property must not be allowed to persist with impunity.

The killings in Kulben village have once again ignited calls for justice, as well as heightened calls for peaceful coexistence between Fulani herders and local communities. It is vital for all stakeholders involved, including government officials, security agencies, community leaders, and civil society organizations, to work together to find a lasting resolution to the conflict.

This attack serves as a somber reminder of the urgent need to address the underlying causes of this recurring violence, such as access to land, resources, and grazing rights. Only through open dialogue, sustainable policies, and meaningful interventions can lasting peace be achieved in this region.

As the community mourns the loss of their loved ones, it is crucial that justice is pursued and measures be put in place to prevent future attacks. The people of Kulben and other affected communities deserve to live in peace and security, free from the fear of violence and displacement.

Efforts must be intensified to foster understanding, reconciliation, and peaceful coexistence between different ethnic groups, ensuring that no lives are lost and communities are able to thrive.
