Yobe State Engineers Kick Off 2023 Engineering Week with a Bang
The Nigeria Society of Engineers (NSE), Yobe State branch, has commenced activities for the 2023 Engineering Week in Damaturu, the state capital. With an impressive list of achievements, the Damaturu branch is considered one of the most active branches of the NSE. The Engineering Week aims to promote the engineering profession and raise awareness among the public. The week-long event is filled with various activities, including press briefings, visits to educational institutions and projects sites, as well as a memorial lecture in honor of a late engineer.

DAMATURU - The Nigeria Society of Engineers (NSE) have begun activities for the 2023 Engineering Week in Damaturu, Yobe State capital. The Damaturu Branch of the NSE, established in 1997, has showcased remarkable growth and achievements over the years.

With a humble beginning of only 20 members, the branch has rapidly expanded to over 100 members today. It has actively participated in national programs and played a significant role in the advancement of the engineering profession. In addition to its membership growth, the Damaturu branch has produced key figures in the engineering field, including the Executive Secretary of the national body and two fellows.

The branch has also made substantial contributions to infrastructure development. Through a well-prepared position paper, they successfully advocated for the dualization of the Kano-Maiduguri Federal Road, a major transportation route. Additionally, their efforts resulted in the extension of a 330 KV line from Gombe to Damaturu to Maiduguri, improving the power supply in the region.

Engendering a strong commitment to education and outreach, the Damaturu branch conducts career guidance and quiz competitions for secondary school students annually, with the aim of encouraging them to pursue engineering as a profession. They also enforce engineering standards and practices through Engineering Regulation Monitoring (ERM) visits, ensuring that key engineering projects within the state meet the necessary standards.

Now, the branches' attention turns to the 2023 Engineering Week. An annual event, the Engineering Week is a means to promote the engineering profession and raise awareness among the public. It serves as a platform for showcasing engineering successes and engaging with stakeholders.

  • Carrier Talk at Government Girls College, Damaturu
  • Philanthropic Visit to Yetim Foundation School, Damaturu
  • Visit to State Specialist Hospital, Damaturu

Day 2: Tuesday, 25th July, 2023

  • Visit to projects site at Federal Polytechnic
  • Visit to Damaturu Regional Water supply well field 'A' at Sumsuma village
  • Courtesy Call to His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Yobe State
  • Visit to Elder Engineers

Day 3: Wednesday, 26th July, 2023

  • Inspection visit to International Cargo Airport, Damaturu
  • Visit to Yobe Television and Yobe Broadcasting Cooperation

Day 4: Thursday, 27th July, 2023

  • Memorial lecture in honor of Late Engnr. Madu Kawu FNSE, OON
  • Dinner and awards night
