Nigerian Religious Delegation Meets with Military Junta to Prevent War Intervention
A religious delegation from Nigeria has met with the military junta to discuss the seizure of power and prevent war intervention. The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has postponed its scheduled meeting due to technical reasons. Previous mediation attempts have failed, leaving the country in a state of uncertainty. The fate of the deposed president, Mohamed Bazoum, remains uncertain, causing concern among foreign countries and organizations.

A religious delegation from Nigeria arrived in the capital city on Saturday, aiming to negotiate with the military-led junta and prevent potential war intervention, as reported by the ANP Nigerian news agency.

The ulamas were received by Ali Mahaman Lamine Zeine, the newly appointed civilian Prime Minister by the junta.

The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) announced on Saturday that their planned meeting in Accra, Ghana, has been postponed indefinitely due to "technical reasons." The organization had previously declared its readiness to intervene for the restoration of democratic order in Nigeria but continues to prioritize diplomatic efforts. In response to this announcement, the Nigerian junta placed its armed forces on high alert on Friday.

According to the ANP news agency, the religious leaders have been consulting with the leadership of ECOWAS this week to determine the role they can play in the crisis. However, previous mediation attempts have failed to yield any significant progress.

The deposed Nigerian president, Mohamed Bazoum, who has been placed under house arrest, was reportedly seen by his physician on Saturday, as revealed by one of his advisors. However, Bazoum's fate remains uncertain. He is accompanied by his son and wife at his residence. Concerns over Bazoum's health and fate have been raised by several foreign countries and organizations since the coup on July 26.
