Nigeria and Turkey Partnership: Creating Millions of Jobs in Healthcare and Infrastructure
The partnership between Nigeria and Turkey has the potential to generate over one million jobs in the healthcare and infrastructure sectors. The Abuja Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI) welcomes the collaboration and highlights the need for government support to create a conducive environment for private sector growth. The aim is to bridge the gap in healthcare services, reduce medical tourism, and boost the local economy.

Abuja, Sept. 1, 2023 (NAN) - The Abuja Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI) has expressed optimism about the partnership between Nigeria and Ankara, Turkey, which could result in the creation of more than one million jobs in the healthcare and infrastructure delivery system. The collaboration between Turquaz Health, a health tourism organization from Ankara, and the ACCI aims to enhance healthcare services between the two countries.

Dr Sijuade Kayode, Vice President of Commerce at ACCI, highlighted the longstanding relationship between Turkey and Nigeria, dating back to the 1970s, and emphasized the potential benefits of this partnership. According to Kayode, the collaboration extends beyond healthcare to include defense, education, and infrastructure.

"Government provides the policy and enabling environment for the private sector to thrive. By investing in health, education, and infrastructure, we can create jobs and boost the economy. The partnership and investments have the potential to generate about one million jobs. In the infrastructure sector alone, 500,000 jobs can be created in a year. In the education sector, we can create a million jobs. All we need from the government is to provide the enabling environment, policies, and funding to support the private sector," said Kayode.

ACCI and Turquaz Health will solidify their discussions and further actions during the ACCI team's visit to Turkey in October.

Mr. Naci Tamer, Vice Chief Executive Officer of Turquaz Health, highlighted the opportunity for stronger economic ties between Ankara, Turkey and Abuja, Nigeria. The areas of collaboration include energy, infrastructure, ICT, innovation, cultural exchange, small and medium enterprise (SME) development, and sustainable development.

Mrs. Victoria Achi, Director-General of ACCI, emphasized the need to develop local expertise in healthcare to reduce capital flight. "Instead of promoting medical tourism, we should focus on developing our healthcare sector locally. There is a lot of profit in healthcare in Nigeria, and we can keep the money within the country by improving our medical healthcare infrastructure," noted Mrs. Achi.

Dr. Kolawole Owoka, Chairman of the Medical and Trade Industry Group in ACCI, expressed the desire to reverse the trend of medical tourism and attract investments from Turkey into Nigeria to strengthen the healthcare system.

The signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between ACCI and the Turkish health team, alongside Ankara Commerce Industry, marked the highlight of the event, signifying the commitment of both parties to the partnership.

This partnership between Nigeria and Turkey has the potential to transform the healthcare sector, reduce the reliance on medical tourism, and create a significant number of jobs for Nigerians. By strengthening the collaboration and providing the necessary support, the government can play a pivotal role in realizing these opportunities and driving economic growth.
