Abia State Environmental Agency to Prosecute Offenders of Environmental Laws

The Abia State Environmental Sanitation Agency (ASEPA) has put forward plans to take legal action against individuals found violating the environmental laws of the state. The general manager of ASEPA, Ogbonna Okereke, made this announcement during a monthly meeting with members of the Aba Landlords Protection and Development Association (ALPADA) in Aba.

Expressing his concerns, Okereke stated that despite the proactive measures implemented by Governor Alex Otti's administration to improve sanitary conditions in most cities in Abia, some residents have chosen not to comply with the regulations. He highlighted the issue of residents dumping refuse on the ground instead of utilizing the provided waste disposal bins, emphasizing that such behavior poses a significant threat to the government's goal of achieving clean and healthy cities in Abia.

Okereke further revealed that ASEPA will soon launch an awareness campaign aimed at educating residents about the importance of cooperating with the authorities to maintain cleanliness. Simultaneously, he sternly warned that the government would not hesitate to take firm action against unrepentant residents who continue to violate the environmental laws.

The general manager stressed that those found guilty of sanitation offenses would face consequences such as fines, imprisonment, or a combination of both penalties. As a way to reinforce the message and garner support, Okereke urged members of APALDA to leverage their influence and act as ambassadors for the 'Keep-Abia-Clean' crusade. He called upon them to disseminate the message to all residents of Aba and beyond, encouraging them to play an active role in positively transforming the state's appearance.

"As a responsible and responsive administration, we are appealing for the cooperation of Abians in ensuring that we create a new and functional Abia. We are calling on you, Aba landlords, to carry this message to all Aba residents and beyond," Okereke emphasized.
