The 19th edition of the Basketball Without Borders (BWB) Africa camp has tipped off at the American International School of Johannesburg (AISJ) in South Africa. The camp, organized by the National Basketball Association (NBA) and the International Basketball Federation (FIBA), brings together talented young basketball players from across Africa.

Forty girls and 40 boys from more than 25 African countries are participating in the camp. Among the participants are 19 prospects from NBA Academy Africa and NBA Academy Women's Camp Africa 2022. The camp provides these young players the opportunity to work on their basketball skills and showcase their talent.

The camp kicked off with skills development stations and evaluation games, where the participants honed their basketball techniques. In addition, the female campers took part in a Her Time to Play seminar, led by NBA Africa leadership and WNBA legends. The seminar aimed to empower young girls through basketball and inspire them to pursue their dreams on and off the court.

Aside from the on-court activities, the NBA delegation, led by NBA Africa CEO Victor Williams, visited the Nelson Mandela Children's Hospital. During the visit, they donated medical and rehabilitation equipment for the Burns Unit of the hospital. This donation reflects the NBA's commitment to making a positive impact in communities and using basketball as a tool for social change.

The Basketball Without Borders Africa camp continues with morning skills sessions led by NBA and WNBA current and former players and coaches. These sessions provide the participants with valuable insights and guidance from experienced professionals. The camp will also include a court unveiling ceremony in the Alexandra Township, further extending the reach and impact of the program.

The Basketball Without Borders Africa camp plays a crucial role in identifying and nurturing talented young basketball players from Africa. It promotes the growth of the sport on the continent and provides opportunities for players to showcase their potential on a global stage. Through skills development, mentorship, and exposure to NBA and WNBA professionals, the camp empowers young athletes to pursue their basketball dreams and become ambassadors for the sport.

As the Basketball Without Borders Africa camp unfolds, the young participants will continue to learn, grow, and form lasting connections with fellow players and mentors. The camp serves as a testament to the power of basketball in bringing communities together and driving positive change not only on the court but also in the lives of the participating athletes.
