Edo State Governor Receives Commendation for Local Government Elections
The Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has received commendation from the Concerned Edo Citizens Forum (CECF) and the Edo State Independent Electoral Commission (EDSIEC) for his role in ensuring a peaceful and successful local government election in the state. The group praised Edo people for their civic responsibility and urged winners to prioritize the development and well-being of the society.

The Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has been commended for his efforts in creating an enabling environment for the recent local government elections in Edo State. The Concerned Edo Citizens Forum (CECF), a socio-political group based in the state, praised the governor for his commitment to democracy and ensuring a peaceful electoral process.

The local government election took place on September 2, 2023, and Edo people turned out in impressive numbers to exercise their civic responsibilities. The CECF expressed its appreciation for the political sophistication and understanding demonstrated by the people of Edo State.

In a statement issued by the convener of the group, Comrade Roy Oribhabor, the CECF also applauded the Edo State Independent Electoral Commission (EDSIEC) for its role in organizing the election. Despite some logistical challenges, the group commended the leadership and management of EDSIEC for a job well done.

"We commend the chairman of the Edo State Independent Electoral Commission for a job well done despite the late arrival of materials in some polling units. This was not enough to discredit the entire process, hence, we salute the leadership and management accordingly," Oribhabor said in the statement.

The CECF also took the opportunity to congratulate the winners of the local government election. In a democratic system, the majority will always have their way, while the minority have their say. The group encouraged those who may not agree with the outcome of the election to seek redress through legal channels, rather than resorting to self-help.

Looking forward, the CECF emphasized the importance of the winners using their positions for the development of the society. They urged the elected representatives to formulate policies and programs that would enhance the social well-being of the people. The group called for a focus on transparency, accountability, and putting the interests of the people above personal gain.

The statement concluded by reiterating the CECF's appreciation for the governor, the electoral commission, and the people of Edo State. The successful conduct of the local government election highlighted the democratic values and political maturity of the state. The group encouraged continued engagement and participation in the democratic process for the betterment of Edo State.
