Embracing Peace: A Call to Imo Youths for a Secure Future
The Imo Christian Youths for Peace Initiative (ICYPI) has called on the youths in Imo State to embrace peace as a means of tackling the insecurity challenges plaguing the State. This appeal was made by the Convener of ICYPI, Oluchukwu Nnabugwu, during an event held to commemorate the International Youth Day. The theme of this year's occasion, "Green skills for youths: toward a sustainable world," resonates with the current situation in the country. Nnabugwu emphasized that if the energies of the youths are channeled into productive activities, they can help build a progressive society.

In recent times, Imo State has been grappling with various security challenges that have had a detrimental effect on the lives and livelihoods of its residents. The rise in criminal activities and the increasing youth involvement in these crimes are alarming and call for urgent attention.

The Imo Christian Youths for Peace Initiative (ICYPI) recognizes the critical role that young people play in society and their potential to shape the destiny of a nation. In commemoration of the International Youth Day, the ICYPI has taken the initiative to urge the youths in Imo State to embrace peace and contribute to the sustainable development of the state.

The theme of this year's occasion, "Green skills for youths: toward a sustainable world," chosen to align with the global theme, aptly captures the essence of the present situation in Imo State. The need for the youth to harness their skills and talents towards sustainable development cannot be overemphasized.

The Convener of ICYPI, Oluchukwu Nnabugwu, in his address to the press, highlighted the pivotal role that the youth can play in tackling the insecurity ravaging the state. He emphasized that by empowering the youth and engaging them in fruitful ventures, they can become agents of change in building a progressive society.

"The youth are the soul of any nation or society. Their passion, energy, and skills, when mobilized and engaged, can drive and shape the destiny of the people. The youth are, without a doubt, the real deal in nation building and development, and as such, they must be properly mainstreamed and collaborated with in building a progressive and prosperous society," Nnabugwu stated.

The call for peace and youth engagement was further reiterated by Ndidi Anike, a former governorship aspirant of the Labour Party (LP), who commended the ICYPI for their initiative. Anike appealed to the youths in Imo State to embrace peace and become the solution to the insecurity challenges bedeviling the state.

As Imo State gears up for another election cycle, it becomes even more imperative for the youth to rise up and take a stand against violence and criminality. By embracing peace and being actively involved in the political process, young people can contribute to the overall security and development of the state.

The ICYPI's call to the youth of Imo State comes at a crucial time when the state needs unity and concerted efforts to combat the rising insecurity. It is only through a collaborative approach that lasting solutions can be found.

Embracing peace involves not just the absence of violence but also the promotion of tolerance, understanding, and respect for one another. It requires the youth to actively participate in community development projects, skill acquisition programs, and dialogue aimed at fostering unity and harmony.

It is important to recognize that sustainable development cannot be achieved in an atmosphere of fear and insecurity. Thus, the youth must take up the mantle of responsibility and work towards creating a secure future for themselves and future generations.

Engendering peace in Imo State requires the collective effort of all stakeholders, including the government, religious and community leaders, and most importantly, the youth themselves. By focusing on green skills and sustainable development, the youth can contribute to a brighter and more secure future.

In conclusion, the ICYPI's call to the youths in Imo State to embrace peace and engage in activities that promote sustainable development is a clarion call that should not be ignored. The youth have the power to shape the destiny of the state and bring about the desired change. It is time for them to rise up and be the solution to the challenges facing Imo State.
