In the midst of political unrest and uncertainty, the call for change is becoming more prominent. The recent coup in Gabon has raised concerns about the possibility of a similar situation unfolding in Nigeria. Reverend David Ayuba Azzaman, a well-known cleric in Kaduna, has spoken out against the idea of supporting a coup in Nigeria, warning that it may lead to even more instability and conflict.
In a Facebook post, Rev. Azzaman cautioned Nigerians to think twice before advocating for a military takeover. He claimed that his warning is based on a divine revelation and not mere sentiment. While acknowledging the frustration and dissatisfaction with the current state of affairs in Nigeria, he argued that a military coup is not the ideal solution.
Rev. Azzaman highlighted the importance of upholding democratic values and institutions, particularly the judiciary. He referred to the recent controversy surrounding Peter Obi's mandate as an example of the judiciary's role in resolving political disputes. According to the reverend, if the court fails to grant Peter Obi his rightful mandate, it would be preferable for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to continue rather than resorting to military intervention.
The cleric's warning is not the only one of its kind. Another pastor, Prophet Abel Tamunominabo Boma, claimed that a coup is being planned underground in Nigeria but assured his followers that God would scatter any such plot. These warnings echo the sentiment that a military coup would only exacerbate the existing problems in Nigeria.
Prophet Yinka Omole of the Christ Disciple Mission International also expressed his concerns, specifically addressing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. He urged the president to avoid opting for a military intervention in the coup-hit Niger Republic, stating that it would be a grave mistake. Prophet Omole emphasized that God is against the use of the military to resolve political crises, advocating for peaceful and diplomatic solutions instead.
As Nigeria grapples with its own political challenges, the warnings from these religious leaders prompt a necessary reflection on the consequences and potential dangers of supporting a military coup. While citizens may yearn for change, it is crucial to recognize that sustainable progress and stability can only be achieved through democratic processes and the adherence to the rule of law.
