Bauchi State Governor launches 2023 tree planting campaign
Bauchi State Governor, Sen. Bala Mohammed Abdulkadir, has launched the 2023 tree planting campaign in the state. The Governor emphasized the importance of tree planting in combating the adverse effects of climate change and urged residents to participate in the campaign. He also pledged to crack down on the illegal felling of trees and encouraged youths to embrace tree planting as a source of employment.

The Bauchi State Governor, Sen. Bala Mohammed Abdulkadir, has launched the 2023 tree planting campaign in an effort to fight the ravaging climatic conditions in the state. Speaking at the Dungal Housing Estate, the Governor stressed the significance of tree planting in light of the unpredictable weather conditions caused by climate change.

The Governor expressed his concern over the illegal felling of trees for charcoal production, which is detrimental to the environment. He vowed to take strong action against those involved in such activities. In addition, he assured the public that his administration will continue to promote tree planting in order to protect the environment and create a beautiful and conducive living space.

Sen. Bala Mohammed urged the youth to consider tree planting as a means of employment, emphasizing that the government cannot provide empowerment to everyone. He also called on traditional rulers to encourage their subjects to engage in tree planting throughout the year, rather than waiting for the official tree planting period.

The Governor further called on the Caretaker Chairmen to allocate a specific period for tree planting, particularly in the northern part of the state, which is affected by desertification. He emphasized the need to save the environment to mitigate the adverse effects of climate change.

In his opening remarks, the Commissioner of Housing and Environment, Rt Hon. Danlami Ahmed Kawule, highlighted the significant impact of climate change on the planet. He emphasized the importance of trees in combating climate change, as they provide oxygen, absorb carbon dioxide, and regulate the climate.

Ahmed Kawule noted that trees contribute to improving air quality and creating habitats for various species. He emphasized the collective impact of planting trees and encouraged everyone to actively participate in the tree-planting efforts. He also emphasized the need to embrace sustainable practices and support reforestation projects.

The 2023 tree planting campaign in Bauchi State aims to plant trees along a 12.6km stretch from Miri village to Mobil Roundabout. This roadside plantation will help create an aesthetic environment and improve carbon capture. Similar tree planting exercises are planned for other areas of the state.

The Governor's initiative to launch the tree planting campaign demonstrates his commitment to environmental conservation and the fight against climate change. By involving the community and encouraging the youth to participate, the campaign aims to create a greener and healthier future for the people of Bauchi State.
