PHED Commences Global Token Identifier Rollover for Prepaid Meters
PHED has begun the Global Token Identifier Rollover (TID) for prepaid meters in its franchise area. This initiative is in line with the directive of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC). The upgrade involves implementing a standard transfer specification code with key change tokens to ensure seamless meter functionality.

The Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Plc (PHED) has announced the commencement of the Global Token Identifier Rollover (TID) for prepaid meters within its franchise area. The initiative, in line with the directive of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), aims to upgrade the prepaid meters to ensure their continued functionality.

Under the Global Token Identifier Rollover exercise, all prepaid meters will undergo an upgrade with a standard transfer specification code. The code comprises two sets of 20-digit key change tokens that will be programmed into the meters. This upgrade is necessary because the current software enabling vending services for prepaid meters globally is set to expire in November 2024. Without the upgrade, meters not rolled over with the key change tokens will become non-functional.

Mrs. Olubukola Ilevbare, the Head of Corporate Communications at PHED, stressed the importance of loading the unused tokens into the prepaid meters prior to the rollover exercise. This ensures a smooth transition and prevents token rejection by the meters. Ilevbare assured customers that the TID rollover will not affect the accuracy of the meters or their compliance with the meteorological properties certified by the Nigerian Electricity Management Services Agency (NEMSA).

To make the process seamless for customers, PHED has established multiple channels for obtaining the Key Change Tokens required for the meter upgrade. Customers can visit PHED's offices, access the website, or use the IBINABO platform and help desk. These avenues aim to provide customers with an excellent customer experience while upgrading their meters.

It is important to note that the Global Token Identifier Rollover exercise is cost-free. PHED advises customers not to make any payments in exchange for the key change tokens. The company will not be held liable for any financial losses incurred due to failure to adhere to this information.

The initiative by PHED demonstrates the company's commitment to ensuring the optimal performance of prepaid meters and the delivery of reliable electricity services to its customers. By complying with the Global Token Identifier Rollover, PHED takes proactive measures to embrace technological advancements and enhance the efficiency of its operations.

This upgrade is expected to provide customers with a seamless experience in managing their electricity consumption and payments. Furthermore, it reinforces the importance of regulatory compliance in the electricity distribution sector.
