Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company to Upgrade Prepaid Meters for Enhanced Efficiency
The Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) has revealed plans to upgrade its prepaid meters through the Token Identification (TID) Rollover, ensuring continued seamless operation and customer satisfaction. The upgrade, effective from August 1, 2023, will integrate a global software update into STS meters, making them compatible with the new TID Rollover protocol. IBEDC aims to provide customers with Key Change Tokens (KCT) to facilitate a smooth transition, ensuring no impact on the current electricity tariff. Customers are advised to load any unused energy tokens before August 1, 2023, to avoid obsolescence.

The Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) Plc. has announced an upcoming upgrade to enhance the efficiency of its Standard Transfer Specification (STS) prepaid meters. The upgrade, known as the Token Identification (TID) Rollover, aims to ensure continued seamless operation and customer satisfaction.

The Managing Director of IBEDC, Mr Kingsley Achife, stated that the upgrade would take effect from August 1, 2023. It involves integrating a global software update into the STS meters, making them compatible with the new TID Rollover protocol.

According to Mr Achife, this upgrade is imperative because starting from November 24, 2024, all STS meters worldwide will cease to accept old credit tokens without the necessary meter upgrade. To ensure a smooth transition, IBEDC will provide prepaid meter customers with Key Change Tokens (KCT) in addition to their regular energy tokens when purchasing electricity.

The Key Change Tokens (KCT) serve as special reset tokens and are crucial for the successful completion of the meter upgrade process. These tokens will be provided to customers free of charge, and the meter upgrade will have no impact on the current electricity tariff.

During the mandatory upgrade period, customers must remember important details. They will need to upgrade their prepaid meters by sequentially entering two KCT tokens (KCT 1 and KCT 2) before entering the energy token provided by IBEDC.

Effective from August 1, 2023, old credit tokens will become obsolete. Customers must ensure that any unused or previously purchased energy tokens are loaded into their meters before this date to avoid losing their value.

The meter upgrade process will not affect the credit unit balance on meters, ensuring customers' balances remain intact. The upgrade is a one-time process, and subsequent energy token purchases will continue as usual after completion.

IBEDC assures its commitment to supporting customers throughout the transition, with field officers available to assist and monitor compliance. Customers who experience issues with loading energy tokens following the KCT upgrade can promptly contact IBEDC's customer care through various channels.

This upgrade by IBEDC demonstrates their dedication to providing efficient and reliable services to customers while ensuring compliance with global standards for prepaid meters.
