FCT, Abuja - The Presidential Election Petition Court (PEPC) delivered a resounding affirmation of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu as President and Kashim Shettima as Vice President of Nigeria. Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, hailed the judgement and commended the progress of the country's electoral process.
Akpabio stated that the judgement was a clear recognition of the popular mandate given by Nigerian citizens during the February 2023 polls. He congratulated President Tinubu and his vice on their well-deserved victory and encouraged all citizens to support the efforts of the Tinubu government in ensuring the wellbeing of the Nigerian people.
The Presidential Election Petition Tribunal (PEPT) dismissed the cases filed by the opposition parties, including Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party, Peter Obi of the Labour Party, and Chichi Ojei of the Allied Peoples Movement, on the grounds that their petitions lacked merit.
In response to the judgement, the confederation of All Progressives Congress (APC) support groups emphasized that only God could unseat Bola Ahmed Tinubu as Nigeria's president. The group held a press conference in Kaduna state to address the alleged criticism of the 2023 presidential election by the Catholic Archbishop Emeritus of Abuja, Cardinal John Onaiyekan.
The affirmation of President Tinubu's victory by the Presidential Election Petition Court reflects the continuous progress of Nigeria's electoral process. It is indeed a testament to the credibility and transparency of the country's democratic system.
As the court diligently considered and addressed all the issues raised by the petitioners, it is essential for all concerned parties to accept the judgement. Unity and collaboration are crucial as the Tinubu government works towards securing the wellbeing of the Nigerian people.
This ruling serves as a significant milestone in Nigeria's democratic journey and affirms the will of the citizens. It reinforces the fact that the electoral process is a vital avenue for Nigerian citizens to express their political choices and shape the future of their nation.
The affirmation of President Tinubu's victory reflects the trust Nigerians have placed in him to lead the country forward. It is a call for all citizens to rally behind the administration and work towards achieving the collective goals and aspirations of the nation.
The PEPC's judgement also highlights the importance of presenting well-substantiated cases during election petitions. The opposition parties' petitions were dismissed due to significant gaps and lack of merit. This underscores the need for robust and evidence-based arguments in our legal system, ensuring that the democratic processes are respected and upheld.
The peaceful resolution of election disputes through the judicial system further strengthens Nigeria's democracy, fosters stability, and enhances trust in the electoral process. The judgement of the PEPC serves as an example for future cases and reinforces the importance of fairness, impartiality, and adherence to the rule of law.
With the affirmation of President Tinubu's victory, a new chapter begins in Nigeria's journey towards progress and development. Let us embrace unity and work collectively for the betterment of our beloved nation.
