An Ibadan-based businessman, Mr. Dapo Davies, has recently made serious allegations of corruption and land racketeering against a staff member of the Ministry of Justice in Oyo State. In a petition submitted through his lawyer, Mr. Davies accuses Mr. Masood (Esq.) of aiding and abetting land grabbers and causing a breach of public peace.

The allegations arise from an ongoing lawsuit regarding a disputed piece of land situated at Ogunpa, Oke Padre in Ibadan. Mr. Davies, the claimant in the case, claims that Mr. Masood (Esq.), a Senior Counsel at the Oyo State Ministry of Justice, has been actively involved in allowing land grabbers to erect buildings on the contested property.

Mr. Davies' lawyers, from the firm Babatunde Oni & Co., expressed their client's concern about the actions of Mr. Masood (Esq.), stating that this constitutes an attempt to subvert justice. They also argue that the staff member's actions are unlawful and could potentially lead to a breach of public peace.

The lawsuit, with the case number 1/380/2013, was initiated by Mr. Davies through a Writ of Summons on May 14, 2023. The fourth defendant in the case is the Attorney General of Oyo State, making the involvement of the Ministry of Justice significant. The case has already had several hearings before Hon. Justice Akintola, a vacation judge, on July 12, August 17, and August 25.

According to Mr. Davies' lawyers, the construction on the disputed land by the first and second defendants started after they became aware of the pending lawsuit. In response, Mr. Davies filed an application for an interlocutory injunction on August 18, 2023. However, due to a court strike, the hearing for the injunction was adjourned and did not take place on September 5, 2023, as scheduled.

These allegations of land racketeering and corruption within the Ministry of Justice have serious implications for transparency and justice in Oyo State. If true, they expose a breach of trust by a staff member who should be upholding the law and ensuring fair outcomes in legal disputes.
