Rift Between Edo State Governor and Deputy Deepens: Deputy Governor Brought to Court
The rift between Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State and his deputy, Philip Shaibu, deepens as the deputy governor brings a court case against the governor. The Commissioner for Communication and Orientation, Chris Osa Nehikhare, expresses disappointment in the deputy governor's actions and highlights the disruption caused to government events. The article explores the reasons behind the court case and disbandment of the deputy governor's media team, shedding light on the intricate dynamics of the situation.

Lagos - The rift between the Governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki, and his deputy, Philip Shaibu, has taken a legal turn as the deputy governor brings the governor to court. In an interview on Arise TV, Chris Osa Nehikhare, the Commissioner for Communication and Orientation, expressed his disappointment in the deputy governor's actions and shed light on the disruption caused to government events. The deepening rift between the two powerful figures has created an atmosphere of tension and uncertainty in the state.

According to Nehikhare, the deputy governor's decision to take legal action against Governor Obaseki has strained their relationship to the point of no return. "In Edo State and I know in Nigeria, if you take a man to court, you can no longer dine with him. If the case is settled out of court, then you can have a beer together," Nehikhare explained.

The commissioner further criticized Shaibu for disrupting government events and attempting to portray himself as the victim. Nehikhare accused the deputy governor of attending the 60th anniversary of the creation of Mid-Western State with the intention of creating turmoil and embarrassing the state.

Nehikhare also addressed the incident where the deputy governor was allegedly stopped from approaching the governor during a church event. While he acknowledged that the security personnel were doing their job, he emphasized that Governor Obaseki may not have been aware of the situation at the time. He pointed out that the lack of communication regarding the deputy governor's presence in town contributed to the misunderstanding.

Explaining the disbandment of the deputy governor's media team, Nehikhare clarified that it was a recalibration rather than a punitive action. The aim is to have a more organized and streamlined media team solely focused on the deputy governor's official functions. Nehikhare took responsibility for the decision and assured that the necessary protocol will be put in place to assign a media team when needed.

The rift between Governor Obaseki and Deputy Governor Shaibu highlights the complex dynamics of power and politics in Edo State. As the court case unfolds and tensions escalate, the state finds itself in a precarious position. The outcome of the legal battle and the future of the governor-deputy governor relationship remain uncertain, leaving the people of Edo State in a state of anticipation.
