Enugu Electricity Distribution Company Warns Customers of Meter Upgrade Fraud
The Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) has cautioned its customers against falling victim to fraudsters who are extorting money under the guise of upgrading their prepaid meters. The company emphasizes that the planned upgrade of meters will be provided free of charge to customers, and they should not pay any money to anyone claiming otherwise. Customers are advised to ensure their meters are upgraded before 24th November 2024.

The Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) has issued a warning to its customers regarding fraudulent activities associated with the planned upgrade of STS prepaid meters in its network. The company emphasizes that the meter upgrade process will be free of charge, and customers should not fall victim to fraudsters.

According to Mr. Emeka Ezeh, the Head of Corporate Communications at EEDC, the caution has become necessary due to reports received about unscrupulous individuals extorting unsuspecting customers under the pretense of meter upgrades.

Ezeh stressed that customers should not pay a single kobo to have their meters upgraded, as the process will be carried out at no cost to them. He explained that upgrading the meters will be a straightforward process of punching the Key Change Tokens (KCT) into the meter, which will be provided alongside the credit tokens when customers recharge their meters.

The meter upgrade exercise is scheduled to be completed by 24th November 2024. Therefore, it is essential for customers to ensure their meters are upgraded before the specified date.

The EEDC has shown a high level of responsibility by notifying its customers in advance about this exercise. By doing so, they aim to protect their customers from falling victim to fraudulent activities.

Meter upgrade fraud is not uncommon, and fraudsters often take advantage of unsuspecting customers who are unaware of the upgrade processes and associated costs. However, the EEDC is committed to providing a seamless and hassle-free experience to its customers throughout the meter upgrade process.

Customers who encounter any suspicious individuals claiming to be authorized agents of the EEDC and demanding payment for meter upgrades should report such cases to the appropriate authorities. It is crucial to remain vigilant and cautious to avoid being defrauded.

The EEDC has assured its customers that it will continue to update them on any developments regarding the meter upgrade exercise and provide necessary guidance to ensure a smooth transition.

By cautioning its customers and emphasizing that the meter upgrade will be completed free of charge, the EEDC aims to build trust and confidence among its customers.

Overall, this proactive step by the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) ensures that customers are well-informed and protected from fraudulent activities, while also promoting transparency and accountability in the meter upgrade process.
