Man Shot in the Eye by Security Guards for Opening Community Gate
Two security guards in Ogun State have been arrested for shooting a man in his right eye. The victim opened the community gate himself when the guards were not available. ABEOKUTA - In a shocking incident that highlights the misuse of power, two security guards in Ogun State have been arrested for shooting a man in his right eye. The victim, identified as Ramon Rasaq, opened the community gate himself when the guards were not available. Little did he know that his action would lead to such a tragic outcome.

The incident took place last Saturday in the Sango/Ota area of Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area. According to sources, the victim lost his sight in his right eye as seven pellets were later removed by a traditional healer. The police have described the case as attempted murder.

Abiodun Fatai, who reported the incident to the police, stated that his younger brother had a heated altercation with the security guards because he opened the gate himself. The two security men, Michael Adelayo and Ganiyu Saka, were not on guard at their security post when the victim arrived at the gate. This seemingly innocent act of opening the gate without the presence of the security guards angered them.

What started as a quarrel quickly escalated into a scuffle. In a shocking turn of events, one of the security guards, Ganiyu Saka, reportedly shot Ramon Rasaq in his eyes. The situation could have easily turned fatal, but the victim was rushed to a nearby traditional healer who managed to remove seven pellets from his eye.

Upon receiving the report, the police took immediate action. CSP Saleh Dahiru, the Divisional Police Officer of Sango Ota, facilitated the transfer of Ramon Rasaq to Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) for further treatment. Although he lost his right eye in the incident, the doctor on duty has assured that the victim is responding positively to the treatment.

This incident raises serious questions about the role of security guards and their exercise of power. Opening a community gate without the presence of security personnel should not lead to such extreme consequences. It is the duty of security guards to ensure the safety and well-being of the community they serve, not to inflict harm upon individuals.

The police spokesperson in Ogun, Omolola Odutola, has emphasized that this case will be treated as attempted murder. The security guards involved in the shooting will face the full force of the law. It is essential that such incidents are thoroughly investigated, and appropriate action is taken to prevent similar occurrences in the future.

The incident serves as a wake-up call for the authorities to implement stricter guidelines and training protocols for security personnel. This will help to ensure that they are equipped to handle situations in a responsible and non-violent manner.

The victim, Ramon Rasaq, and his family are now seeking justice. They hope that this incident will not only lead to the punishment of the guilty parties but also serve as a reminder that every individual's life and well-being should be respected and protected, regardless of the circumstances.
