Kano State NLC Joins Nationwide Warning Strike in Protest Against FG's Inaction
The Kano State chapter of the National Labour Congress (NLC) has joined the ongoing warning strike across the country. The strike action is a result of the Federal Government's perceived failure to address the suffering of the Nigerian masses, months after removing fuel subsidy. The NLC is demanding concrete measures to alleviate the hardships faced by workers, as the minimum wage is no longer sufficient and the cost of living continues to rise. If the government fails to meet their demands, an indefinite strike is imminent.

The Kano State chapter of the National Labour Congress (NLC) has joined the ongoing warning strike across the federation, in solidarity with workers across Nigeria. The strike action is a result of the Federal Government's perceived failure to address the sufferings of the Nigerian masses, months after removing fuel subsidy.

Comrade Kabiru Inuwa, the state chairman of the NLC, stated that the strike action became necessary as it seemed that the Federal Government (FG) is paying lip service to the sufferings of the Nigerian masses. He highlighted the unimagined hardship faced by workers in the state, as the minimum wage is no longer sufficient to meet their basic needs. The heightened cost of living has further exacerbated the situation.

While top government officials still maintain an extravagant lifestyle, the poor masses are left grappling with the basic necessities of life. This stark inequality is a major concern for the NLC, prompting them to take action.

Comrade Kabiru Inuwa emphasized that the warning strike is just the beginning. If the FG fails to address the demands of the masses, an indefinite strike will be inevitable. He stated, "Nigerians are suffering on a day-to-day basis and the FG needs to meet our demands."

The Kano Council of the NLC called on the FG to go beyond distributing palliatives and urged the implementation of concrete measures to alleviate the sufferings of the people as a result of fuel subsidy removal.

Comrade Ado Riruwai, the NLC Chairman of the Private Sector, leads the strike enforcement team in Kano. He confirmed the shutdown of various government and private agencies that have not complied with the ongoing strike. Sectors affected by the strike include banks, KEDCO, and all government institutions in the state. The NLC is even considering shutting down the airport.

However, the central business area of Kano remains relatively calm, with only a few commercial tricycles plying the roads. Although some shop owners have kept their businesses open, the majority have observed the strike action.

The warning strike serves as a wake-up call for the FG to address the concerns of the Nigerian workers. The NLC is advocating for fair treatment, acknowledging the struggles faced by the masses and urging the government to take concrete actions.

The strike action is a clear message that workers are united in their demands. They cannot continue to bear the burden of rising costs while government officials enjoy a luxurious lifestyle. The NLC's warning strike in Kano State is just the beginning, and the ball is now in the FG's court.
