Airbus Expands Capacity with New A321XLR Equipping Hangar in Hamburg
Airbus has opened a new automated A321XLR equipping hangar in Hamburg, Germany. This expansion aims to modernize and digitalize the company's industrial system and increase its ramp-up capacity for the A320 program. The new hangar will focus on manufacturing A321 fuselages and contribute to the development and production of the A321XLR, the flagship of the A320 Family. The state-of-the-art facility incorporates sustainable design principles and reflects Airbus' commitment to climate-neutral aviation.

Lagos - Airbus has taken another leap forward in its industrial system development with the inauguration of a new automated A321XLR equipping hangar in Hamburg, Germany. The hangar was officially opened by Hamburg's First Mayor Peter Tschentscher and German Aerospace Coordinator Anna Christmann.

The establishment of this new hangar reaffirms Airbus' commitment to advancing its industrial capabilities and expanding its production capacity. The increased capacity will support the ramp-up of the A320 program, allowing the company to manufacture up to 75 aircraft by 2026.

André Walter, the Head of Airbus Commercial Aircraft Production in Germany, emphasized the significance of the Airbus Hamburg site in the production of the A321XLR. He explained that the state-of-the-art equipment installation hangar enables the company to expand its capacity for manufacturing A321 fuselages, thus contributing to the ramp-up process.

Walter further highlighted the importance of the Hamburg site for Airbus, stating, "At the same time, we are reaffirming the importance of Hamburg for Airbus. The design of the building reflects the latest standards in production and sustainability."

Dr. Peter Tschentscher, the First Mayor of Hamburg, emphasized that Hamburg is a central location for Airbus' single-aisle development and production. The A321XLR will be assembled at the Finkenwerder site, setting new standards in terms of sustainability, efficiency, and range.

In addition to its production benefits, the new hangar represents an important milestone in the journey towards climate-neutral aviation. Anna Christmann, the Federal Government Coordinator of German Aerospace Policy, commended Airbus for positioning itself as a trailblazer in sustainable aviation and accelerating progress towards climate-neutral aviation.

The equipment installation hangar spans an impressive 9,600 square meters and is labeled H259. It is dedicated to the installation and mounting of the rear fuselages of the A321XLR aircraft. With fully automated logistics and digital systems, the hangar incorporates cutting-edge technologies to streamline operations and provide real-time updates on the status of each fuselage section.

Airbus' investment in this new hangar showcases its commitment to the A321XLR program and its determination to transform the aviation industry to achieve climate neutrality. The state-of-the-art facility, coupled with Airbus' innovative approach, positions Germany as a competitive and future-oriented aerospace location.

This inauguration marks a significant milestone for Airbus as it continues to lead the way in the development of sustainable aviation, combining technological advancements with environmental responsibility.
