Delta State Governor Advocates for Practical Education to Reduce Dependency on Imported Goods
Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, emphasized the need for practical education and hands-on learning as a solution to Nigeria's over-reliance on imported goods. He believes that a curriculum that focuses on practical knowledge and empowers people to produce goods locally will lead to national development. The Governor made these remarks during a visit to the University of Delta, where he inspected various projects and expressed satisfaction with the progress.

Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has called for a shift towards practical education and hands-on learning to decrease Nigeria's dependence on foreign products. The Governor believes that an educational system that prioritizes practical knowledge and empowers individuals to produce goods for local consumption and exports will contribute to the nation's development.

During an inspection of projects at the University of Delta, Agbor, Owa-Alero campus, Governor Oborevwori highlighted the importance of technical education in improving productivity and reducing the reliance on imported goods. The projects inspected included the Faculty of Environmental Studies, Lecture theatres, Engineering Workshops, Solar farm at Mother and Child Hospital Owa-Alero, and the Ute-Okpu - Ute-Elugu Road in Ika North-East Local Government Area of the State.

The Governor, represented by Sir Monday Onyeme, his deputy, commended the quality of work done by the contractor and acknowledged the efforts of the previous administration in initiating these projects. He expressed satisfaction with the progress made and confirmed that the projects would be ready for inauguration in the coming days.

In emphasizing the importance of practical knowledge, Governor Oborevwori expressed delight in witnessing the students engaged in practical activities at the university. He observed the production of cups made from bamboo, noting that such initiatives reduce the need for imported goods. He stressed the need to shift focus from theoretical knowledge and place more emphasis on practical knowledge.

Regarding the Ute-Okpu - Ute-Elugu Road project, the Governor praised the quality of work carried out by the contractor. The road comprises both fresh construction and resurfacing, totaling 11.3km. Governor Oborevwori lauded the progress made and assured that the road would be inaugurated within the next two weeks.

As Nigeria and other developing nations aim to reduce their reliance on imported goods, the Governor's call for practical education and hands-on learning comes at an opportune time. By equipping individuals with the skills to produce goods locally, the nation can strengthen its economy, create employment opportunities, and foster national development.
