Anambra State Governor Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo CFR has called for the renewal of the ideals and noble leadership of Dr. M.I. Okpara, the former Premier of the Eastern region, in order to help Nigeria reclaim its glorious past. Governor Soludo emphasized that Nigeria's foundation for the future lies in the regeneration of its past, and he praised Dr. Okpara as a nationalist and policy entrepreneur who believed in sustainable wealth creation and improving the lives of ordinary Nigerians through public finance.

Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo CFR, has delivered a passionate keynote address, calling for the renewal of the ideals and noble leadership espoused by Dr. M.I. Okpara, the former Premier of the Eastern region. Governor Soludo made this plea during the inaugural Dr. M.I Okpara's Memorial Lecture held at the renowned Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, Abia State.

In his address, Governor Soludo emphasized that Nigeria's past had been more glorious than its present state. He lamented the country's backward development over the decades, especially when compared to countries like Indonesia, Malaysia, and South Korea. These nations, he stated, were once at par with Nigeria in terms of development at their respective points of independence.

The Governor opined that Nigeria's path to a prosperous future lies in a profound regeneration of its past, identifying Dr. M.I. Okpara as a beacon of the leadership qualities required to reclaim the nation's greatness. Governor Soludo extolled the virtues of Dr. Okpara, describing him as a nationalist, humanist, and policy entrepreneur who firmly believed in sustainable wealth creation and utilizing public finance to uplift the lives of ordinary Nigerians.

Highlighting a regrettable turn of events, Governor Soludo expressed concern over Nigeria's abandonment of traditional industries like palm oil production in favor of oil exploration. This shift in focus had inadvertently transformed Nigeria into a net importer of crude oil, perpetuating a cycle of economic decline.

The Governor urged current leaders to emulate Dr. Okpara's principles and ideologies, calling upon them to work towards creating an inclusive Nigeria where everyone has the opportunity to succeed. He emphasized the need to prioritize policies that promote sustainable wealth creation and empower the populace, drawing inspiration from Dr. Okpara's visionary leadership.

Concluding his address, Governor Soludo applauded the election of Dr. Alex Otti as the Governor of Abia State. He remarked that Governor Otti's election was not only a positive development for the people of Abia but also for the wider Igbo community.

Governor Alex Otti of Abia State expressed gratitude to the leadership of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture for inviting Governor Soludo as the keynote speaker. He commended Soludo as an erudite economist and acknowledged Dr. M.I. Okpara as a medical doctor with remarkable economic insight, surpassing many contemporary economists in Nigeria.

Other prominent attendees included the Chief of Staff to Governor Soludo, Mr. Ernest Ezeajughi, President General of Ohaneze Ndigbo Worldwide, Dr. Emmanuel Iwunayanwu, traditional rulers, academia, and students.

The Memorial Lecture marked the commemoration of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture's three decades of existence. The event aimed to honor the legacy of Dr. M.I. Okpara, emphasizing the importance of his values and principles in charting a path towards Nigeria's revival.
