Anambra State Governor Terminates Contract for Niger Street Road Rehabilitation
Anambra State Governor Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo CFR has terminated the contract with TEC Engineering Nig Ltd, the contractor handling the rehabilitation of Niger Street road project in Onitsha. The Governor took this step after discovering that the contractor was not delivering the project according to the agreed timelines and standards. He expressed his dissatisfaction with the contractor's negligence and lack of capacity to complete the job.

In a recent inspection visit to the rehabilitation project of Niger Street in Onitsha, Governor Soludo made the decision to terminate the contract with TEC Engineering Nig Ltd. It was evident that the contractor was failing to deliver the project as agreed upon in the initial contract.

The Governor expressed disappointment and dissatisfaction with the contractor's inability to adhere to the timelines and standards set out in the agreement. He emphasized the importance of efficient and timely project completion to ensure the convenience and safety of the residents and road users in Onitsha.

Governor Soludo assured the people that another contractor would be engaged to execute the job promptly and effectively. He prioritized the need for a competent contractor who could deliver the project within the specified time frame.

While addressing the issue, the Governor also reiterated the ban on street trading in the state. He emphasized that new markets are being built to accommodate street traders, providing them with a suitable environment for their businesses.

During the inspection tour, Governor Soludo also visited other areas in Onitsha, including Ose Market, Bida Road, Emodi Street, Oduigbo-Ochanja Market, Fegge, Onitsha South Stadium, and Creek Road. He identified the need to install street lights on the roads and ensure the clearance of all drainages to facilitate the smooth flow of water towards the river Niger.

Additionally, Governor Soludo announced plans to renovate Onitsha South Stadium into an urban entertainment, leisure, and recreational center. He emphasized the desire to create a family-friendly space for the enjoyment of the residents. The Governor highlighted the creation of a framework where the State Sports Development Commission and Onitsha South Local Government would collaborate to realize this plan.

The inspection tour was attended by several officials, including Anambra Deputy Governor Dr. Onyekachukwu Ibezim, Chief of Staff to the Governor Mr. Ernest Ezeajughi, Commissioner for Works Mr. Ifeanyi Okoma, Commissioner for Youth Development Mr. Patrick Agha Mba, Special Adviser Political Matters Dr. Alex Obiogbolu, Special Adviser to the Governor on Security Matters AVM Ben Chiobi Rtd, and Chairman of the Anambra Urban Regeneration Council Architect Mike Okonkwo, among others.
