The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mr Nyesom Wike, has undertaken his first official assignment by inspecting the Abuja Rail Mass Transit (ARMT) System rehabilitation project. He emphasized the importance of addressing challenges affecting public transportation in the FCT and expressed his commitment to transforming the sector in order to improve public transportation in the capital city. Wike highlighted the need to complete ongoing projects before embarking on new ones and urged the management of the company handling the rail construction and rehabilitation projects to deliver quality results. The minister also denied claims of acquiring a bulletproof vehicle for his personal use.

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mr Nyesom Wike, embarked on his first official assignment by inspecting the Abuja Rail Mass Transit (ARMT) System rehabilitation project. This move comes as part of his commitment to addressing challenges affecting public transportation in the FCT and his resolve to transform the sector in the short term.

During his visit to the ARMT Metro Station in Abuja, Wike expressed his concern over the non-functioning metro station and questioned why it had not been fixed within a short timeframe. He emphasized the importance of completing ongoing projects before starting new ones, considering the availability of resources. Wike believed that having a completed and functioning project would instill public confidence in the transportation system.

Wike stressed the significance of tackling traffic congestion within the city and described transportation as one of the sectors in which he intends to intervene in the short term. He outlined the need to identify areas with the most traffic congestion and decongest them. The minister's visit to the ARMT Metro Station also included a train ride to the Airport and Idu Stations to inspect the ongoing rehabilitation project of the rail system.

Impressed with the progress made so far, the minister referred to the rail rehabilitation project as a "good project" and highlighted its potential to significantly reduce traffic congestion in the city upon completion. He assured the public that the necessary funds for the rehabilitation were available and confirmed that he had directed the Permanent Secretary, FCT Administration, to ensure the contractor was paid. Wike emphasized his commitment to commissioning and putting the project to public use within the coming months.

In response to claims circulating on social media, the minister vehemently denied the acquisition of a bulletproof Landcruiser Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) by the FCT Administration for his personal use. He challenged journalists to inspect his vehicle and verify whether it was the bulletproof variant and urged them to report accurately without spreading false information.

Minister of State for FCT, Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, echoed Wike's sentiments, stating that assessing the problems affecting the rail transport system and finding ways to address them would pave the way for its effective utilization by the public.
