Anambra State Governor, Prof. Charles Soludo, has announced a set of measures aimed at providing relief to the residents of the state who have been grappling with the high cost of living. The initiatives include tax exemptions and reductions for different segments of the society, free healthcare services for pregnant women, a salary increase for public servants, distribution of essential commodities, and infrastructure development.
One of the key highlights of the announcement is the tax exemptions and reductions for various sectors. Hawkwers, wheelbarrow and truck pushers, vulcanizers, artisans, okada drivers, petty traders, and transporters will all benefit from these tax breaks. This move is expected to ease their financial burdens and improve their livelihoods.
In addition to the tax exemptions, Governor Soludo has also introduced free antenatal services and delivery services for pregnant mothers in state primary health centers and general hospitals. This is a significant step towards ensuring the well-being of expectant mothers and reducing the maternal mortality rate in the state.
Furthermore, the governor has approved a 10 percent salary increase for all public servants and pensioners in Anambra State. This adjustment will provide much-needed respite to the workers and retirees who have been grappling with the rising cost of living. Additionally, a monthly non-taxable cash award of N12,000 will be given to every pensioner and public servant from September to December 2023.
Governor Soludo's administration has also prioritized the distribution of rice to over 300,000 households in the state. This initiative is aimed at ensuring food security and reducing the burden of food expenses on families. Additionally, the repair and renovation of public servant staff buses will improve transportation facilities for workers, while the application to purchase CNG-fueled buses will enhance intra-state transportation.
Looking ahead, the government plans to distribute one million oil palm and coconut seedlings per annum to over 100,000 households. This will not only promote agriculture but also create more job opportunities for the youth. The establishment of a new industrial complex to process these products further boosts employment prospects.
Governor Soludo's administration is also committed to empowering the youth through the One Youth Two Skills program, which will provide grants and soft loans at a maximum interest rate of 9% per annum. This initiative aims to foster entrepreneurship and economic growth among the youth.
The Ward-based Cooperative Initiative for micro-enterprises will receive funding and support to enhance economic activities at the grassroots level. Furthermore, a comprehensive program to build and modernize primary health centers in all 326 wards will improve access to healthcare services for the entire population.
Infrastructure development is also a key focus for Governor Soludo. Over 340 kilometers of roads will be constructed across all the twenty-one local governments, promoting connectivity and easing transportation. The government is also keen on improving the Ease of Doing Business in Anambra State to attract private sector investments, ultimately generating employment opportunities and boosting economic growth.
In conclusion, Anambra State Governor, Prof. Charles Soludo, has implemented a range of measures aimed at alleviating the high cost of living in the state. These measures, including tax exemptions, free healthcare services, salary increases, and infrastructure development, will undoubtedly have a positive impact on the lives of the residents. The initiatives reflect the government's commitment to the welfare and well-being of its citizens and pave the way for a brighter future for Anambra State.
