The Tor Tiv, Orcivirigh Prof James Ortese Iorzua Ayatse, has urged stakeholders and public-spirited individuals to join hands in supporting the Leprosy Mission in Nigeria. The call comes as the Tiv nation seeks to eradicate leprosy and other neglected tropical cases across the country.

ABUJA - The paramount ruler of the Tiv nation, Orcivirigh Prof James Ortese Iorzua Ayatse CFR, has called on stakeholders and public-spirited individuals in the country to join hands in supporting the Leprosy Mission in Nigeria.

This, the Monarch said will enable the body to defeat the disease and bring healing, restoration, and dignity to those affected by the disease and other neglected tropical cases across Nigeria.

Speaking while commissioning the New Leprosy Mission Nigeria National Coordination Office Building in Abuja, the Tor Tiv noted that the development has marked a significant milestone in the collective journey to eradicate leprosy.

Adding that the "building will serve as a hub to expand its reach and foster greater collaboration with stakeholders at all levels as well as enhance its research capabilities and sustain its interventions towards transforming the lives of the people and communities affected by leprosy."

The Tor Tiv urged the people to reject deep-rooted myths and stereotypes surrounding the disease.

He said, "Leprosy is curable, treatable, preventable, not hereditary, and contagious; therefore, all stigma and prejudice associated with it should be eradicated, and more love, acceptance, and support should be given to the people affected," the Begha u Tiv stressed.

Orcivirigh Ayatse commended the TLM Nigeria's relentless pursuit of providing healing and restoration for persons affected by the disease, saying it brought immeasurable blessings to their lives as they have a renewed sense of purpose and live life to its fullness.

Leprosy has plagued societies for centuries, leading to the marginalization and mistreatment of individuals affected by the disease. Despite scientific advancements and the availability of effective treatment, stigma and discrimination surrounding leprosy persist in many communities.
