Edo State Governor Seeks Federal Government's Permission to Fix Dilapidated Roads
Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, has expressed frustration over the refusal of the federal government to allow the state government to fix the dilapidated federal roads in the state. Obaseki, while speaking at an event, called on residents and road users to plead with the federal government to permit the state to take over the roads and address the pressing road infrastructure issues. He highlighted the importance of collaboration between political and religious leaders for effective governance and development.

The Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has lamented the state of the dilapidated federal roads in the state, expressing his frustration over the federal government's refusal to allow the state government to fix them. He made these remarks during the installation ceremony of Ven. Ebenezer Omeiza Saiki as the second Diocesan Bishop of Akoko-Edo Diocese.

The deplorable state of the roads has caused immense suffering for the people of Edo State, hindering transportation and economic activities. Governor Obaseki urged residents and road users to join him in appealing to the federal government to grant permission to the state government to take over the maintenance and repair of these roads.

Highlighting the urgency of the situation, Governor Obaseki recalled a recent incident where he had planned to attend an event in Igarra but was forced to turn back due to the absence of a suitable road network. He underscored the need for immediate intervention to address the sufferings of the people and ensure smooth transportation within the state.

Speaking to the congregation, the governor said, "I want to repair and fix your road, but you have to help me beg them in Abuja to let me do it because they say it's their own road and will not allow a state to work on their roads and fix them. So, you have to help us beg the Federal Government so that they will allow us to take these roads and fix them."

Governor Obaseki emphasized the importance of collaboration between political and religious leaders to drive growth and development. He acknowledged the significant role played by the Church and its leaders in attending to the needs of the people, especially in times of despair. He expressed his commitment to support the newly installed Bishop and reassured the congregation of his dedication to addressing their concerns.

In welcoming the governor and his entourage, Most Rev Cyril Odutemu, the Archbishop of Bendel Province and Bishop of Ughelli Diocese, commended Governor Obaseki for his efforts in commemorating significant milestones in the history of Edo State, including the Midwest Referendum and the creation of Edo State. He urged the governor to continue serving the people diligently, while reminding him of the challenges that come with political leadership.

The clergy concluded by emphasizing the importance of truthful advice over flattery, acknowledging the difficult nature of political leadership and the need for patience and perseverance. They expressed their confidence in Governor Obaseki's ability to make a positive impact in Edo State and offered their support and prayers.
