The Vice Chancellor of Plateau University expressed gratitude for the collaboration and outlined plans to establish certificate and diploma programs in AI and cyber security to further promote ICT development in the state.

The Nigerians in Diaspora Organisation (NIDO) in collaboration with Plateau University, Bokkos, recently concluded a five-day training program on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Cyber Security for 302 youths in Plateau State. The initiative, aimed at advancing the knowledge of the beneficiaries in Information Communication Technology (ICT) skills, covered various areas such as Digital Marketing, Mobile App Development, Digital Forensic, among others.

Dr Ezekiel Macham, the Coordinator of NIDO, highlighted the increasing significance of ICT in today's society and emphasized that the training aimed to equip the young participants with the necessary skills to harness the power of ICT in their lives. "In our contemporary society, you will agree with me that ICT is the way to go; ICT now rules the world," he stated.

Reflecting on the power of ICT to transcend geographical barriers, Macham emphasized the potential for individuals to work and earn money across borders. "Today, through ICT, Indians stay in their country but work and earn money in America, that's the power of ICT. So, we decided to put this training together to improve the knowledge of these young people and acquaint them with necessary skills in key areas of information technology," he added.

The Vice Chancellor of Plateau University, Prof. Benard Matur, expressed his gratitude to NIDO for the partnership and pledged to sustain the initiative. He stated that the training aligns with the university's plans to position itself as a hub for ICT development in the state and the country as a whole.

Prof. Matur further explained that the university intends to introduce Certificate and Diploma programs in artificial intelligence, cyber security, and other aspects of information technology. This strategic move by the university aims to produce experts in the field of ICT who will play a pivotal role in addressing various societal challenges, including insecurity and food security.

The collaboration between NIDO and Plateau University goes beyond the training program. The group also presented medical equipment to the Plateau State Specialist Hospital in Jos, demonstrating their commitment to making a positive impact in the community.

The training, which equipped the youths with vital ICT skills, has the potential to empower the participants and contribute to the overall development of Plateau State. By embracing the power of AI and cyber security, along with other areas of information technology, these young individuals are better positioned to create opportunities for themselves and their communities, ultimately driving economic growth and societal advancement.

Through such initiatives, NIDO and its partners continue to bridge the gap between Nigerians in the diaspora and their home country, facilitating knowledge transfer and empowering the next generation of leaders in various industries.
