The Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has promised to create a workable enabling environment for investors desiring to do business with the state government under his watch.
In a meeting with Roche Nigeria Limited and Omitti Nigeria Limited at the government house, Governor Otti's Chief of Staff, Pastor Caleb Ajagba, represented him and reiterated the commitment of the state government to support investors. The governor urged the investors to establish an acceptable timeline and structure, assuring them that the government was determined to eliminate any hindrances that could delay the proposed agreement and project.
The Commissioner for Agriculture, Professor Monica Ironkwe, highlighted the agricultural potential of Abia State and its ability to ensure food sufficiency. She stated Governor Otti's interest in handing over the Ohambele Oil Palm Plantation to credible investors capable of maximizing its potential. Professor Ironkwe lamented past investors' failure to meet expectations.
During the meeting, Mr. Paul Roche, the Managing Director of Roche Nigeria Limited, expressed his gratitude to the state government for the opportunity to revolutionize palm plantation in Abia State. He expressed hope that the discussions would lay a solid foundation for replicating the success achieved in Imo State, where Roche initially started similar palm production projects three years ago.
Mr. Roche emphasized their commitment to commence work immediately upon signing the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). He stressed the critical role of the rainy season in palm production activities.
Engineer Nduka Nwosu, the Director of Omiti Nigeria Limited, explained that they introduced Roche to Abia State after witnessing the significant progress made by Roche in transforming palm production in Imo State. Nwosu spoke about the associated benefits such as wealth creation, employment generation, increased revenue, and value chain addition.
Other key personalities present at the meeting were Dr. Clifford Agbaeze (Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Agriculture), Mr. Adam Weir (Operations Director, Roche Nigeria Limited), Mr. Uguru Onyike (Chief Finance Officer, Omiti Nigeria Limited), Mr. Eke Ikenna (Business Development Officer, Omiti Nigeria Limited), and Mr. Ijomah Valentine (Technical Officer, Omiti Nigeria Limited).
