Kwara State, Ilorin - A team of engineers at Kwara State University has achieved a remarkable feat by successfully manufacturing an electric vehicle amidst the challenges posed by the removal of fuel subsidies. Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq of Kwara state announced this breakthrough on Twitter, where he shared photos of the converted vehicle.
The governor, who personally inspected the electric vehicle, expressed his delight at the successful conversion from a gasoline engine to an electric one. He noted that the vehicle operates flawlessly with various accessories.

Commending the team of engineers from Kwara State University (KWASU), the governor acknowledged the leadership of AbdulAzeez Akande, the Head of the Technical Unit Centre for Sustainable Energy, and Chief Technologist at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. Prof. Shaykh Lukman Jimoh, the Acting Vice Chancellor of KWASU, also led the team during their visit to the Government House, where they arrived in the electric vehicle.
The governor assured the engineering team of the state's continuous support as they strive to deploy technology and their expertise to enhance the quality of life in Kwara State. In line with efforts to reduce carbon emissions, the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) has announced plans to install charging ports for electric vehicles at its petrol and gas stations across the country. Furthermore, the NNPC intends to invest in electric vehicles to meet the rising demand locally. The company is currently in discussions with a local manufacturer engaged in producing electric cars, signaling a commitment to supporting the growth of the electric vehicle industry in Nigeria.
