The wife of the Ekiti State Governor, Dr. Olayemi Oyebanji, has pledged her collaboration with the state chapter of the Non-Governmental Association for Literacy Support Services (NOGALSS) to enhance the education sector in the state. As a National Patron of NOGALSS and a scholar in Education Management, Dr. Oyebanji expressed her readiness to work closely with the association and assist in fulfilling its mandate. She promised to address various demands made by NOGALSS and emphasized her passion for education.
Dr. Oyebanji, who received members of NOGALSS led by the state Chairperson, Alhaja Fausat Ahmed-Yusuff, assured them of her support and willingness to share ideas to move the organization forward. The First Lady of Ekiti State acknowledged her longstanding affiliation with NOGALSS, having attended meetings and worked with the association even before assuming her current position.
The First Lady further disclosed that she would partner with the Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Prof. Femi Akinwumi, to address issues such as office accommodation and the provision of suitable classrooms for adult literacy classes in Ado Ekiti.
Expressing her passion for education, Dr. Oyebanji revealed plans to collaborate with the Ministry of Education and NOGALSS for forthcoming programs. She highlighted her commitment to girl-child education and her desire to implement initiatives aimed at enhancing secondary education. She assured the association that her tenure as First Lady would witness notable strides in the education sector.
The Chairperson of NOGALSS in Ekiti State, Alhaja Ahmed-Yusuff, shared the needs of the association during the meeting. The request for office accommodation, equipped with modern facilities, and a bus for mobility was emphasized to aid administrative works and enhance supervision and monitoring of centers across the state. Additionally, she advocated for the inclusion of NOGALSS in the decision-making process regarding adult and non-formal education in Ekiti State, along with the provision of annual subvention to support its operations.
Alhaja Ahmed-Yusuff also informed Dr. Oyebanji about NOGALSS' wide reach, comprising over a thousand affiliate NGO groups in all 36 states of the Federation and the Federal Capital Territory. With its extensive network, NOGALSS serves as the liaison body for NGOs involved in adult and non-formal education across the country.
Dr. Olayemi Oyebanji's partnership with NOGALSS is a significant step towards strengthening the educational landscape of Ekiti State.
