Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority Demands Compliance with Insurance Regulations
The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority has issued a directive demanding compliance with insurance regulations by all allied aviation service providers. The directive, which comes into force on July 10, 2023, requires all airlines and other service providers to maintain adequate and valid insurance cover. Failure to comply with the regulations will result in immediate sanctions, including grounding of aircraft and enforcement actions.

The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has recently issued a directive demanding strict compliance with Nigerian Civil Aviation Regulations (Nig. CARs) 2022 regarding insurance coverage for all allied aviation service providers. The directive, which comes into force on July 10, 2023, states that all airlines and other service providers must ensure they maintain adequate and valid insurance cover as specified in Part 18.14.1.1 of the regulations.

This move is aimed at strengthening safety measures in the aviation industry and ensuring that all service providers are adequately insured against potential risks. The NCAA is taking a proactive approach to minimize the chances of accidents or incidents by making it mandatory for all service providers to comply with the insurance regulations.

Part 18.14.1.1 of the Regulations states that airlines and allied aviation service providers must not operate without an adequate and valid insurance cover. They are also required to submit copies of valid insurance certificates, evidence of payment of premiums, and other relevant policy documents to the NCAA. The insurance cover should be for a minimum of three months and should be renewed before the expiration of the current policy.

The director general of Civil Aviation (DGCA), Musa Nuhu, personally signed the directive, emphasizing the importance of compliance with the regulations. "Non-adherence to this Regulation will attract immediate sanctions, which will include grounding of the specific aircraft and taking enforcement action against any airlines or service providers that defaulted," stated Nuhu. This demonstrates the seriousness of the NCAA in enforcing these regulations.

The insurance cover requirement is crucial not only for the safety of passengers and crew but also for the protection of the aviation industry as a whole. Adequate insurance coverage can help mitigate financial losses in case of accidents, damage to property, or injuries. It also provides compensation for affected parties and helps maintain the trust and confidence of passengers in the industry.

Service providers must ensure that their insurance coverage is adequate and updated, submitting the necessary documents to the NCAA as soon as they are renewed. Failure to comply with the regulations can have serious consequences, including disruptions to operations and reputational damage.

The NCAA's directive is a step towards improving safety standards and ensuring that all service providers prioritize the well-being of passengers and personnel. It highlights the commitment of the regulatory body to maintain the highest standards of aviation safety in Nigeria.
