Ekiti State First Lady Distributes School Materials to Indigent Pupils

The wife of Ekiti State Governor, Dr. Olayemi Oyebanji, has once again demonstrated her passion for the welfare and education of indigent pupils in the state. In a remarkable initiative, she distributed brand new schoolbags containing essential items to about 400 pupils from the 16 local government areas of Ekiti State. These pupils, many of whom are orphans, were beneficiaries of the Back to School Programme for Vulnerable Children.

The Education Empowerment Programme, which is an integral part of Dr. Oyebanji's Widows and Orphans Hope (WAOH) Project, aims to relieve the burden on guardians and caregivers as the new school session draws near. Each schoolbag distributed contained items such as water bottles, food warmers, exercise books, mathematical sets, and books, as well as transport allowance.

Dr. Oyebanji's motivation for this initiative is to positively impact the lives of these vulnerable children and provide them with a sense of belonging. By supporting their education and ensuring that their resumption back to school is not hampered by poverty, she seeks to motivate them to excel in their studies.

The first lady of Ekiti State made it clear that her support for these indigent kids will continue well into the future, with plans to incorporate more beneficiaries in the program. In addition, she revealed her forthcoming project, the Interface With Adolescents, which will cater to the needs of teenagers in the state.

It is noteworthy that the Widows and Orphans Hope (WAOH) Project, spearheaded by Dr. Oyebanji, will be officially launched in October. So far, over 30,000 widows have been registered under this project, which aims to provide them with social and economic support.

While speaking about her pet project, Dr. Oyebanji emphasized that it is not government-sponsored but rather funded by her friends and partners. She called on individuals, corporate bodies, and interest groups to support her noble cause by contributing funds that will enable her to assist the most vulnerable members of society.

The Deputy Governor of Ekiti State, Chief Monisade Afuye, expressed his admiration for Dr. Oyebanji's personal interest in offering hope to the needy, especially widows and orphans. He commended her for sowing seeds of great impact in their lives.

Chief Afuye also emphasized the positive impact of the Back to School Programme on the pupils. He noted that it will not only boost their interest in education but also provide them with a sense of pride among their peers as the new school session commences.
