The visit by the Global Health Partners, comprising the Global Fund, US President's Malaria Initiative (PMI), and the US President's Emergency Plan For AIDS Relief (PEPFAR), aimed to review progress and reassure the Tinubu administration of their continued support in combating HIV/AIDS, malaria, tuberculosis, and other health challenges.
Ambassador John Nkengasong, the US Global AIDS Coordinator, commended the Tinubu administration for its vision and direction in the health sector. He lauded the Minister of Health's clarity of vision and commitment to building an inclusive health system for the country. The partners acknowledged the importance of aligning their goals and targets with the administration's vision.
During the meeting, Mr. Peter Sands of the Global Fund and David Walton of the President's Malaria Initiative praised the federal government's efforts in combating Malaria, HIV/AIDS, and Tuberculosis. They stressed the need to sustain momentum, particularly in working towards the 2030 target of eradicating HIV/AIDS in Nigeria.
All the partners at the meeting pledged their support and commitment to collaborate with the Tinubu administration, contributing to the realization of its healthcare mandate and vision. Their support will play a vital role in ensuring the success of the administration's efforts.
The meeting witnessed the attendance of other dignitaries, including Dr. Gambo Aliyu, the Director-General of the National Agency for the Control of AIDS (NACA), Will Stevens, the US Consul General in Lagos, and Dr. Walter Kazadi Mulombo, the WHO Country Representative.
