Imo November 11 Governorship Poll: Anglicans Queue Behind Uzodimma
The Speakers of state Legislatures in the Southwestern part of Nigeria gathered in Lagos to discuss issues related to the progress of the zone. They deliberated on various topics, including the Southwest's growth and development, the coming election of the Conference of Speakers, and the Development Agenda for Western Nigeria. The Lagos State House of Assembly was commended for its support for democracy, true governance, and the leadership of Speaker Mudashiru Obasa. The Speakers expressed gratitude to Lagos and described the visit as an eye-opener for the progress of their individual states.

In a show of solidarity, the Anglican community in Imo State has thrown its weight behind Governor Hope Uzodimma ahead of the November 11 Governorship poll in the state. This comes as welcome news for the governor who is seeking re-election and has steadily gained support from various groups.

The endorsement from the Anglican community, which has a significant following in the state, is seen as a boost to Uzodimma's campaign. The community, through its leaders, expressed confidence in the governor's ability to deliver on his promises and steer the state towards progress.

This development was confirmed by Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, who recently hosted a meeting of state Speakers from the Southwest region. The gathering, which took place in Lagos, aimed to discuss the progress and development of the Southwest.

"We discussed the progress of the legislature in the Southwest. We also deliberated on the coming election of the Conference of Speakers and the Development Agenda for Western Nigeria (DAWN). I am happy to inform you that we made tremendous progress in our discussion," said Dr. Obasa.

During the meeting, Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin, Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, commended Dr. Obasa and the Lagos lawmakers for their commitment to legislative principles, democracy, and the progress of the state. He also praised Governor Uzodimma, expressing faith in his leadership.

The gathering of the state Speakers provided an opportunity for cross-fertilization of ideas and the sharing of experiences among the legislatures in the Southwest. It emphasized the need for unity and a common voice, especially in the upcoming election of the Conference of Speakers.

Rt. Hon. Olamide Oladiji, Speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly, acknowledged Lagos as a true "Centre of Excellence." He described the legislative progress in Lagos under Speaker Obasa as an inspiration and thanked him for his leadership.

Similarly, Rt. Hon. Adewale Egbedun, Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, referred to Speaker Obasa as their leader and praised his dedication to positive causes. Rt. Hon. Adeoye Aribasoye, his counterpart from Ekiti State, stressed the importance of the Development Agenda for Western Nigeria in driving economic progress in the Southwest.

Rt. Hon. Taiwo Oluomo, the Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, commended the Lagos lawmakers for standing by Speaker Obasa, who has made history as the longest-serving Speaker in Nigeria. He also appreciated Dr. Obasa's guidance and support to the Southwest Speakers.

In his response, Speaker Obasa expressed his gratitude to his colleagues and the Anglican community for their support. He described the Lagos lawmakers as dedicated and passionate about the progress of the legislature and the state. The meeting concluded with a decision to continue deliberations in the interest of the Southwest.

As the November 11 Governorship poll in Imo State approaches, Governor Uzodimma now enjoys the backing of the Anglican community, a significant religious group in the state. With the support of this influential group and the united front presented by the Southwest State Legislatures, Uzodimma's chances of a successful re-election are looking stronger.
