Labour Party Raises Alarm Over Alleged Plot to Pervert Presidential Election Petitions Court Judgement
The Labour Party has expressed concerns over an alleged ploy to manipulate the judgement of the Presidential Election Petitions Court (PEPC) in favor of President Bola Tinubu. The party criticized the statement made by former Justice Mary Odili and the boasting of some individuals about the outcome. They highlighted the need for the judiciary's sanctity and the dangers of abusing it. The LP also questioned the change in the PEPC's policy on live television coverage. Nigerians are urged to remain calm and peaceful.

ABUJA - The Labour Party (LP) has raised alarm over an alleged ploy to twist the judgement of the Presidential Election Petitions Court (PEPC) in favor of the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate in the 2023 election, President Bola Tinubu.

The LP, in a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Obiora Ifoh, expressed shock over the "unguarded statement" made by former Justice Mary Odili at a recent colloquium in Abuja. The party also criticized the boasting of certain individuals, including serving ministers and legislators, about the expected outcome of the judgement.

The Labour Party emphasized the importance of upholding the sanctity of the judiciary, stating that the abuse of the judicial process undermines Nigeria's democratic journey. They also questioned the conduct of Justice Odili, a renowned jurist, in lavishing praise on the legal counsels of the APC and Bola Tinubu at an unrelated event.

Furthermore, the LP raised concerns about the change in the PEPC's policy on the live television coverage of the hearings. They noted that while the hearings were not broadcasted, the PEPC now intends to livestream the judgement. This sudden shift in policy raised suspicion and warranted scrutiny.

The LP highlighted the need for transparency and emphasized that the focus should be on the interest of the nation rather than individual ambitions. They called on Nigerians to remain calm, peaceful, and abide by the rule of law, as the matter has not reached its final conclusion.

The party also expressed awareness of possible attempts by state agents to orchestrate problems and falsely blame them on the political opposition. They reminded everyone that in a democracy, the right to peaceful demonstration should be protected by state security agents.

In concluding the statement, the Labour Party stressed the importance of due process and the rule of law in the democratic evolution of Nigeria. They warned that the destruction of these principles ultimately affects the nation as a whole, not just individuals.
