The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mr Nyesom Wike, has reiterated the commitment of the FCT Administration to prioritize the development of satellite towns in Abuja. Recognizing that progress and prosperity should extend beyond the city center, Wike highlighted the need for all areas of the FCT to experience development and growth.
The inauguration of the Mandate Secretaries for various FCT Administration departments marks a crucial step towards achieving this goal. These secretaries, including Mr Bitrus Garki, Mr Lawan Geidam, Mr Danlami Ihayyo, Dr Adedolapo Fasawe, Mr Salman Dako, Mr Chinedum Elechi, and Mr Uboku Nyah, are entrusted with translating the vision of the FCT into tangible actions to shape its future.
One of the key missions of the FCT Administration is to enhance Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) to finance ambitious projects and initiatives. Innovative approaches for raising necessary funds will be explored. Additionally, the minister emphasized the need for a reliable and comprehensive public transportation system, considering it a major challenge for a modern city like Abuja.
Furthermore, maintaining clean and well-maintained surroundings is of utmost importance for a healthy and prosperous community. The FCT Administration aims to collaborate with both the government and its citizens to ensure a cleaner and greener FCT. Collaboration with law enforcement agencies and communities will also be prioritized to guarantee a safe and secure environment for all.
Aside from infrastructure and environment, the FCT Administration recognizes the significance of uplifting the education, agriculture, and health sectors. A well-educated and healthy population forms the foundation of a prosperous city. Access to quality education, healthcare, and agricultural opportunities will be prioritized to provide citizens with better opportunities.
Furthermore, the FCT Administration aims to harness the potential of the tourism sector for economic growth and job creation. Cultural and natural assets will be developed and promoted to attract both local and international visitors, boosting the economy of the FCT.
In line with the comprehensive development plan, the FCT Administration plans to address infractions on the Abuja master plan promptly. Non-compliant buildings will face appropriate measures and penalties. Relevant laws will also be closely scrutinized and strengthened to prevent exploitation and uphold the best interests of the FCT Administration and its people.
The commitment of the FCT Administration to the development of satellite towns demonstrates a holistic approach to building a world-class city. By focusing on infrastructure, transportation, environment, education, healthcare, and the economy, the FCT aims to create a prosperous and thriving region that benefits all residents.
