FCT Minister Calls for Suspension of Atiku Abubakar and Waziri Tambuwal from PDP

The aftermath of the 2023 presidential election has seen intense scrutiny and evaluation within the ranks of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). The loss of the party in the election has prompted the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, to call for the suspension of two prominent party members.

During an interview on a Channels Television political programme, "Politis Today," Wike directed his call to the National Working Committee of the PDP. He urged the suspension of the PDP's 2023 presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, and former Sokoto State Governor, Waziri Tambuwal. Both men held influential positions within the party, but Wike blamed them, among others, for the party's loss in the election.

Wike highlighted the lack of justice and fairness among some PDP members and their presidential candidate as the main reason for the party's defeat. He stressed the need to expel such individuals for the purpose of rebuilding the party.

"Look at the areas that the PDP did not win because of high-handedness, because of greed, because of impunity. If the PDP had done what they were supposed to do, then you could have talked about that," Wike asserted.

The FCT Minister emphasized the importance of equity, justice, and fairness within the party and called for the suspension of Atiku Abubakar and Waziri Tambuwal.

The call for their suspension stems from the contention that the PDP's presidential ticket should not have been given to a candidate from the northern region. Wike, along with others known as the G5, refused to work for the PDP in the 2023 election on this basis.

The suspension of Atiku Abubakar and Waziri Tambuwal would serve as a means to reestablish the core principles of justice and fairness within the PDP. Wike believes that by taking such action, the party can rebuild and regain its strength.

While the PDP continues to grapple with the aftermath of the 2023 presidential election, the call for the suspension of key members brings to light the internal challenges within the party. The decision of the National Working Committee on this matter will undoubtedly shape the future path of the PDP.
