The Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) has explained that the reason for the loss of supply currently being experienced in parts of its network is due to the strike action embarked on by the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), which resulted in the shutdown of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) Stations feeding its Injection Substations.
The Head of Corporate Communications, EEDC, Mr. Emeka Ezeh made this known in Enugu today. He confirmed that the affected TCN Stations are New Haven, Ohiya, and Egbu Transmission Stations. As a result, supply to customers of EEDC under Ogui, Abakpa, Umuahia, Owerri, New Owerri, Orlu, and Mbaise districts has been affected.
Ezeh reassured customers that the company is actively monitoring the situation and will provide timely updates as it affects their operations and service delivery. He acknowledged the inconvenience caused by the power outage and pleaded for understanding from their esteemed customers.
The strike action organized by the Nigerian Labour Congress has had a direct impact on the electricity supply in Enugu. With the shutdown of TCN Stations that feed EEDC's Injection Substations, power supply has been disrupted in several districts. This has resulted in discomfort and inconvenience for residents and businesses in the affected areas.
While the NLC strike may be a means for workers to express their concerns and demand better working conditions, it is crucial to minimize the negative effects on the general populace. The loss of electricity adds to the challenges faced by individuals and businesses in an already difficult economic climate.
EEDC, being a major electricity distributor in the region, understands the importance of reliable power supply for the well-being of its customers and the growth of the local economy. The company is committed to finding a resolution to the situation and aims to restore power as soon as the TCN Stations are back in operation.
In the meantime, EEDC encourages affected customers to explore alternative power sources or make necessary arrangements to mitigate the impact of the outage. They assure customers that their team is working diligently to address the issue and will provide regular updates until power supply is fully restored.
It is hoped that the Nigerian Labour Congress and relevant stakeholders will engage in meaningful dialogue and find a resolution to the issues at hand, ensuring that the rights of workers are protected without causing undue hardship to the general population.
