Ondo First Lady Empowers over 3,000 School Girls through Vocational Training
Mrs. Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu, the wife of Ondo State Governor, has disclosed that over 3,000 school girls have been empowered through vocational training in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and solar-powered systems over the last six years. She emphasized the importance of education in empowering the girl child and called for support in building a befitting edifice for their training.

The wife of Ondo State Governor, Mrs. Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu, has been at the forefront of empowering young school girls through vocational training. At the closing ceremony of the 2023 Bemore Summer Booth Camp for girls in Akure, she revealed that over the past six years, more than 3,000 girls have been trained in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and solar-powered systems.

Education has always been identified as a vital tool for empowerment, and Mrs. Akeredolu emphasized the significance of educating the girl child to bring about positive change in society. She stressed that prioritizing the education of girls should be a fundamental goal for any society aspiring to achieve development and a thriving economy.

The initiative led by the Ondo First Lady has provided these girls with unique opportunities that are not easily accessible to many girls globally. By equipping them with skills in solar technology and ICT, the girls are well-prepared to contribute to a gender-balanced society and overcome challenges they may face in the future.

Mrs. Akeredolu stated, "Having built over 3,000 vibrant young women who are making waves on different fronts around the world, it is only ideal to build for these geniuses a place they all can call a home; a befitting edifice where the generations of Bemore girls would freely meet, interact and make things happen."

The impressive impact of this initiative has drawn attention from well-meaning Nigerians and organizations who are now urged to support the cause. The goal is to raise funds for the construction of a suitable facility that will serve as a home for the training and development of the girl child.

The acting Governor of Ondo State, Mr. Lucky Aiyedatiwa, commended Mrs. Akeredolu for her unwavering commitment to empowerment. He urged the girls to utilize the knowledge and skills they gained during the two-week training to make a difference in the world.

Mr. Aiyedatiwa emphasized that the transformative experience and empowerment received during the training would enable the girls to aspire higher and take charge of their own future. He encouraged them to break free from gender discrimination, cultural biases, and other stereotypes that hinder their progress.

Concluding his speech, the acting Governor stated, "This intensive training must be nurturing to your willpower to put into practice all that you have learnt and gained during this period."

The efforts of Mrs. Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu are commendable and serve as an inspiration to all. By investing in the education and empowerment of young girls, she is paving the way for a brighter future, not only for the individuals involved but also for the entire society.

It is crucial that we recognize the importance of providing equal opportunities for girls to thrive and succeed. Empowered girls become empowered women who can contribute significantly to the progress and development of their communities and the nation as a whole.
