The Bayelsa State Labour Party (LP) has put forward Engr. Udengs Eradiri as its candidate for the upcoming governorship election in the state. Eradiri, while addressing a town hall meeting in Odioma, stressed the urgent need for change and called on the people of Bayelsa, particularly the youth, to unite and take action to save the state from the grip of the old order.
Eradiri highlighted the immense potential of coastal communities like Odioma in driving the economic development of Bayelsa. He emphasized that these areas held the key to unlocking the state's resource wealth and creating a prosperous future for its citizens. As part of his campaign, he aims to promote the blue economy and harness the benefits of Bayelsa's ocean resources.
"Odioma has a free trade zone status. We are the only people that are joking with our ocean wealth. Odioma is the blue economy," Eradiri stated, urging the crowd to recognize the significance of coastal areas and their potential for creating jobs and advancing economic growth.
Eradiri's campaign manifesto, known as the People, Education, Agriculture, and Power (PEAP) agenda, focuses on addressing various developmental challenges in Bayelsa. One of his primary concerns is healthcare, as he acknowledged the absence of functional state hospitals and the dire need for improved medical facilities.
"Mothers send their children to schools that don't have teachers, the security situation is bad, and there is no drinking water in Yenagoa," he noted. Eradiri promised to prioritize the welfare of the people through initiatives that tackle healthcare issues, develop new towns, and build projects like the Brass Atlantic City.
Eradiri also highlighted the importance of education and skills development in transforming Bayelsa. He expressed the need to employ and train teachers, upgrade educational facilities, and introduce technology-driven education to align with global standards. Moreover, Eradiri proposed investing in skills development programs to equip the youth with practical skills that align with market demands.
The LP candidate also emphasized his commitment to revolutionizing Bayelsa's agriculture sector. He highlighted the abundant resources available, such as sugarcane, which can be utilized to produce sugar and other products. Eradiri stressed the importance of Bayelsans being self-sufficient in food production and outlined plans to establish food processing and storage facilities to support local farmers and promote agricultural exports.
"If I take leadership in this state, everything we will eat, we will produce it. We will produce pepper, onion, crayfish, eggs, and vegetables in Bayelsa," Eradiri declared. His vision entails leveraging the state's natural resources and reviving existing moribund companies to create employment opportunities and boost economic growth.
Another critical aspect of Eradiri's campaign is the provision of reliable electricity to Bayelsa. He emphasized the availability of local gas resources, particularly in Odioma, and proposed utilizing them to power industrial areas and generate electricity for the entire state. This initiative would not only support local businesses but also reduce the cost of living and improve the overall quality of life in Bayelsa.
Eradiri's message resonated with the audience as he urged them to support the new order and embrace change for the betterment of Bayelsa State. With a comprehensive agenda that touches on key sectors, he aims to empower the youth, develop critical infrastructure, and harness the state's resources to drive sustainable growth and prosperity.
