Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has refuted reports circulating online that one of their vehicles crushed a pregnant woman to death at Computer Village, Ikeja. According to a statement released by LASTMA's Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment, Mr. Adebayo Taofiq, the story presented by the online media outlets does not align with the true events that transpired at the MRS Filling Station on Kodesoh road, Ikeja.
The statement revealed that preliminary investigations conducted by LASTMA revealed a different story. It was found that a mini commercial bus driver, popularly known as a 'korope' driver, drove recklessly upon seeing a LASTMA patrol van in front of the MRS Filling Station queuing for fuel. As a result, one of the passengers sitting near the open door of the bus fell out and sustained minor injuries.
The injured passenger was immediately rushed to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) for medical treatment. It was confirmed that the woman was not pregnant, contrary to the reports, and she has since been treated and discharged from LASUTH.
The matter was promptly reported to the Area 'F' Divisional Police Station for further investigation.
The Management of LASTMA seized the opportunity to remind all commercial bus operators about the importance of passenger safety. They reiterated the need for drivers to ensure that their vehicle doors are closed while in motion, as stipulated by the Lagos State Transport Sector Reform (2018).
LASTMA has been at the forefront of ensuring smooth traffic flow and enforcing road traffic regulations in Lagos State. The authority continues to carry out its duties with a focus on maintaining order on the roads and safeguarding the lives of road users.
With the rapid dissemination of news and information through online platforms, it is essential for the public to exercise caution and verify the accuracy of stories before accepting them as true. In this case, LASTMA clarified the facts and set the record straight regarding the alleged incident at Computer Village, Ikeja.
