The Abia All Progressives Congress (APC) Caucus and Stakeholders have expressed their strong disapproval of the recent decision to appoint Mr Donatus Nwankpa as a member of the national working committee (NWC) of the party. This rejection was led by the former Speaker of Abia State, Hon. Stanley Ohazuruka, who stated that the process employed by the NWC in appointing Nwankpa was in direct violation of the party's constitution.
According to the party stalwarts, the appointment of Nwankpa to replace the Late Francis Nwosu as the National Welfare Secretary was done without proper consultation with the key stakeholders in Abia State. They questioned why the current NWC, led by Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, disregarded their preferred nominee, Hon Martins Azubuike, who had received widespread endorsement from prominent members including the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr Benjamin Kalu.
Hon. Ohazuruka reiterated that the choice of Azubuike was officially communicated to the National Chairman through two separate delegations, one led by the Deputy Speaker and the other by Senator Chris Adighije, as well as a delegation led by Senator Nkechi Nwaogu who met with the National Secretary. It is perplexing to the Abia APC Caucus and Stakeholders why their preferred nominee was overlooked in favor of Nwankpa.
In light of these circumstances, the group called for a reconsideration of the NWC's decision and appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to intervene in the matter. They believe that President Tinubu's intervention is crucial in helping the Abia APC heal from the wounds caused by external interference in the past.
The stakeholders argued that this appointment not only goes against the party's internal democratic processes but also undermines the voice and aspirations of the members in Abia State. They expect that the NWC will revisit the issue and rectify their earlier decision, taking into consideration the wishes of the stakeholders in the state.
It is important for the party to address these concerns promptly to avoid further divisions within its ranks. As the APC strives for harmony and inclusiveness, the Abia Caucus and Stakeholders believe that their valid objections deserve attention and resolution.
The call for President Tinubu's intervention reflects the hope that strong leadership can foster unity and restore confidence among party members. The Abia APC stakeholders trust President Tinubu's track record and experience in managing party affairs, and they believe his involvement will ensure a fair and just resolution to this matter.
