In a bid to address the online reports linking Mr. Tokunbo Talabi, the Secretary to the Ogun State Government (SSG), to the printing of ballot papers during the previous general elections, he has requested the intervention of the Department of State Security Services (DSS) to investigate the matter. These reports, widely circulated in both traditional and online media, claimed that Talabi was involved in an attempt to compromise the electoral process by allegedly printing ballot papers.
The Ogun State government has categorically denied these allegations. Mr. Adegoke Oyebade, an Information Officer at the office of the SSG, wrote a rejoinder to The Punch newspaper, accusing them of publishing a highly misleading report. Oyebade clarified that Talabi had personally submitted the petition to the DSS office in Abeokuta, accompanied by his lawyers. The petition was a response to the online reports linking Talabi to Superflux International Limited, a security printing company where he formerly served as a Director, and alleged involvement in ballot paper printing and the laundering of COVID-19 funds.
Superflux International Limited had previously issued a statement refuting these false allegations. The company expressed its displeasure at being wrongly associated with money laundering and COVID-19 fund siphoning, considering these claims as the work of mischievous individuals determined to tarnish both the company's reputation and that of Mr. Tokunbo Talabi, its former director who currently serves as the Secretary to the Ogun State Government.
As of now, no information has been released regarding the progress of the DSS investigation. However, sources suggest that both Superflux International Limited and Mr. Tokunbo Talabi are considering legal action to clear their names from these baseless accusations.
It is imperative to approach such serious allegations with caution and diligently investigate the claims before tarnishing the reputations of individuals and companies. False accusations can cause irreparable damage, and it is the responsibility of the relevant authorities to ensure a fair and impartial investigation.
