Edo State Commissioner Calls on Downstream Operators to Embrace Ease of Doing Business Policy
The Edo State Commissioner for Mining and Energy, Hon. Enaholo Ojeifoh, has urged downstream operators to take advantage of the state's Ease of Doing Business policy. At a Stakeholders Forum, he warned against under-dispensing, sales of adulterated products, and other sharp practices. Hon. Enaholo also unveiled plans to reposition the sector and attract more investors, including the launch of a database for licensed operators.

The Edo State Commissioner for Mining and Energy, Hon. Enaholo Ojeifoh, has called on downstream operators to seize the opportunities presented by the state's Ease of Doing Business policy. Speaking at the Downstream Operators Stakeholders Forum organized by the Ministry, Hon. Enaholo emphasized the government's zero tolerance for under-dispensing, the sale of adulterated products, and other forms of sharp practices.

Hon. Enaholo expressed the government's commitment to prioritizing the welfare and interests of the people of Edo State. He acknowledged the hardships caused by the removal of fuel subsidies and urged operators to adjust their pumps to comply with globally acceptable standards. The Commissioner gave a two-week ultimatum for compliance, warning that the government's task force would clamp down on those found wanting.

The Commissioner further outlined plans to revitalize the sector and attract more investors to the state. One of the initiatives includes the launch of a comprehensive database of all licensed downstream operators. This database will provide investors with a reliable resource to identify credible off-takers and partners in the oil and gas business.

Addressing the challenges faced by marketers in sourcing products, Hon. Enaholo revealed plans to construct a tank farm and truck parks within the state. These infrastructural developments will streamline distribution processes and enhance efficiency for the industry.

Hon. Enaholo highlighted Edo State as an investor's destination, with favorable security and power conditions. The state's security architecture has been strengthened, and the Ossiomo power plant stands ready to supply reliable electricity. These factors, combined with the government's proactive approach, have positioned Edo State as an ideal hub for businesses in the oil and gas sector.

During the meeting, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Engr. Ferguson Enabulele, encouraged stakeholders to collaborate and offer constructive suggestions on addressing the issues facing the downstream sector.

The Downstream Operators Stakeholders Forum was attended by notable officials, including the Commissioner for Public Security and Safety, Hon. Kingsley Uwagbale, Commissioner for Environment and Sustainability, Arch Joshua Omokhodiom, Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Hon. Adaze Aguele-Kalu, representatives from major petroleum marketers' associations, and officers from the Fire Service, Department of Security Service (DSS), and Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).

In a separate meeting, Hon. Enaholo engaged with Upstream Operators and emphasized the importance of corporate social responsibility (CSR) and fostering harmonious relationships with host communities.

As Edo State continues to prioritize the Ease of Doing Business policy and explore further opportunities in the oil and gas sector, the government's efforts are set to attract more investors, drive economic growth, and enhance the well-being of its people.
