Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, has urged participants at the two-day retreat for the state EXCO members to apply the knowledge gained during their official assignments. The retreat aims to equip government officials with the necessary skills and enhance their understanding of the policy direction of the administration. Keynote speaker, Rotimi Oladele, emphasized the importance of functional education, re-inventing governance, and fostering innovation in various sectors for job creation and development.

The two-day retreat for the state Executive Council (EXCO) members in Benue State commenced in Abuja today, with a charge from the Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, for participants to apply the knowledge acquired during the retreat to their official assignments.

The retreat, organized for principal officers of the government house, cabinet members, and Special Advisers to the Governor, seeks to equip government officials with the necessary tools and knowledge needed to excel in their roles.

Representing the Governor at the event, the Deputy Governor, Barr. Sam Ode, emphasized the significance of the retreat in preparing officials for the tasks ahead. He urged all participants to utilize the knowledge gained to effectively manage their various Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) and contribute to the development of the state.

Meanwhile, during his insightful keynote address, Rotimi Oladele spoke on the topic, "Engaging Leadership, Governance, and Entrepreneurship for Development, Peace, and Sustainability." He stressed the importance of moving away from mere literacy to functional education in society.

Oladele also highlighted the qualities required in policymakers and lawmakers, stating that they should be individuals with wisdom, expertise, and experience. He emphasized that these leaders do not need to rely on "Ghana Must Go" bags of money to fulfill their responsibilities.

Furthermore, Oladele expressed the need for innovation and reinvention in governance. He stated that sectors such as sports, tourism, oil and gas, culture, solid minerals, and entertainment all have something to offer in terms of job creation and development.

He emphasized the importance of security, peace, harmony, and patriotism in fostering these innovations. By leveraging these aspects, the government can create an environment conducive to job creation and overall socioeconomic growth.

It is expected that the retreat will provide the participants with a platform for interaction, collaboration, and a deeper understanding of the policy direction of the Governor's administration. By applying the knowledge and insights gained during the retreat, the government officials can effectively contribute to governance and enhance service delivery in Benue State.
