Abia State Governor Orders Restoration of Power Supply to Government Offices

Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has directed immediate restoration of power supply to all government offices and facilities in the state. The directive came after the State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Ngozi Okoronkwo, briefed the Governor on the activities of her ministry.

Expressing his displeasure, Governor Otti emphasized the importance of having electricity in government offices and facilities. He stated, "If there are bills to be paid, we'll pay them and get the facilities reconnected. We cannot afford to have government offices and facilities without electricity."

During the briefing, Dr. Okoronkwo highlighted the challenges faced by the health facilities in the state. She mentioned incidents of theft and unauthorized access due to lack of security and proper lighting. Equipment and valuable resources meant for the health needs of the people were stolen.

In response to these security concerns, the Governor ordered the boosting of security measures, installation of proper lighting, and the fencing of affected hospitals. The aim is to secure the facilities against future unauthorized access and protect valuable assets.

Furthermore, the Commissioner revealed that the state government has enrolled over 4,700 pensioners to receive free medical treatment in primary and secondary health facilities. The initiative falls under the state's Health Insurance Scheme. The beneficiaries are pensioners who retired from the civil service below the level of Deputy Director.

By providing them with free medical treatment, the state government shows its commitment to the well-being of pensioners. This initiative will alleviate some of the financial burdens associated with healthcare for retired civil servants.
