Influx of Foreign Nationals Raises Concerns in Kwara State
Kwara State PDP expresses concern over the increasing influx of foreign nationals in the state engaged in various activities including begging, commercial motorcycle riding, and vegetable farming. The party calls on the governor to regulate and register these individuals for security reasons.

The Kwara State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has raised an alarming concern over the influx of foreign nationals into the state. The party alleges that these individuals are involved in various activities such as begging, commercial motorcycle (Okada) riding, vegetable farming, and sales, among others.

Residents of Ilorin and other major cities in Kwara State have been observing with trepidation the growing number of foreign nationals within their communities. The presence of these individuals engaging in unfamiliar occupations has raised eyebrows and caused unease among locals.

The PDP statement, delivered by spokesperson Prince Tunji Moronfoye, highlights the disguises worn by the Okada riders in Ilorin. These riders adopt different designs, colors, and identification numbers, with some even resorting to covering their faces to avoid recognition.

What adds to the concern is the fact that many of these foreign nationals do not speak or understand the Hausa language, which is the lingua franca of most Northern states in Nigeria. This further compounds the uneasiness among residents.

The PDP has called upon Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq to take immediate action in registering and regulating these individuals, potentially in collaboration with the Nigerian Immigration Service, if deemed necessary. The party emphasizes the need for heightened security measures in Kwara State, particularly in light of the current security situation and the recent surge in kidnapping and murder cases.

The PDP's statement also acknowledges the alleged reluctance of the governor to initiate such registration before the 2023 general elections, likely due to concerns about upsetting a significant segment of voters. However, with the elections now concluded and the governor's re-election secured, the party believes it is crucial to prioritize the welfare and safety of all citizens.

Given the escalating aggressive messages from Niger Republic to Nigeria, security consciousness is of utmost importance for the people of Kwara State. By implementing registration and regulation measures, the state can better identify and monitor these foreign nationals, thus ensuring the safety and well-being of its residents.

The concerns raised by the PDP shed light on a pressing issue that demands the attention of the state government and relevant authorities. Protecting the security and welfare of citizens should always take precedence, regardless of political considerations.
