The House of Representatives Ad Hoc Committee investigating employment racketeering in federal agencies has issued a warrant of arrest against Haruna Kolo, a staff of the Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON). Kolo had been accused of colluding with the chairman of the Federal Character Commission (FCC) to sell employment slots. The committee expressed its displeasure at the absence of Kolo and representatives from AMCON during the probe and warned of sanctions for agencies that fail to honor invitations.

In a recent development, the committee has issued a warrant of arrest for Haruna Kolo, a staff of the Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON), for his involvement in employment racketeering.
The committee had earlier invited Kolo to appear before them in relation to allegations that he had been selling employment slots in collusion with the chairman of the Federal Character Commission (FCC), Muheeba Dankaka. During his appearance, Kolo admitted to accepting money for employment on behalf of FCC's chairman, expressing concerns for his personal safety and holding the chairman responsible if anything untoward happens to him.
Despite admitting his involvement, Kolo failed to honor subsequent invitations to appear before the committee, with AMCON also failing to send representatives to the probe. This drew the ire of the committee chairman, Hon. Yusuf Gagdi, who stated that a warrant of arrest would be issued against Kolo if he continued to evade the probe.
Expressing his disappointment, Gagdi criticized government agencies for avoiding the investigation and warned of sanctions for those that fail to honor committee invitations. The committee intends to communicate through newspaper publications and television announcements, giving agencies a final opportunity to appear before the committee on Monday.
The committee chairman emphasized the committee's commitment to ensuring a fair process and giving agencies the benefit of the doubt. However, he warned that if agencies continue to ignore the invitations, they would face the consequences. Gagdi made it clear that the committee would not rush into making decisions and that they would use their powers to enforce the appearance of individuals such as Haruna Kolo.
As the hearing was adjourned abruptly due to the absence of government agency representatives, the investigative hearing is set to resume on Monday. The committee will continue its efforts to tackle employment racketeering and hold individuals accountable for their involvement in corrupt practices.
