The Edo State Independent Electoral Commission, (EDSIEC), has disclosed that all necessary arrangements have been concluded for the deployment of electoral materials ahead of the upcoming Local Government polls in the state. This announcement was made by the Chairman of EDSIEC, Justice James Oyomire (retd), who emphasized the commission's readiness to conduct a smooth and successful election.

The Local Government polls, scheduled to take place across the state, will witness the participation of seven political parties, namely the Accord Party, African Action Congress, Africa Democratic Congress, Allied Peoples Movement, All Progressives Congress, Labour Party, and Peoples Democratic Party. These parties have submitted their forms within the stipulated deadline, demonstrating their commitment to democratic processes.

Justice Oyomire highlighted the scale of the election, stating that it will be held in 4,519 polling units across the state, encompassing 192 wards. The electorate will be choosing 18 local government chairmen as well as 192 councillors in this exercise.

Prior to the election, the commission embarked on a tour of the local government areas to interact with and sensitize the people, as well as engage other relevant stakeholders. The objective was to ensure their active involvement and collaboration, recognizing their crucial role in the success of the electoral process.

In a bid to ensure the safety and security of participants, the commission has engaged the services of relevant security agencies in the state. These agencies will be responsible for maintaining law and order before, during, and after the elections. This step is crucial in creating an environment that promotes free and fair elections.

Additionally, EDSIEC has prioritized comprehensive training for election officers and personnel to equip them with the necessary knowledge and skills needed to execute their duties effectively. The training covered various aspects of the election process, including handling electoral materials, ensuring the integrity of the voting process, and managing polling units.

Furthermore, logistic arrangements have been put in place to facilitate the smooth deployment of election materials to the designated polling units. These measures are aimed at preventing any delays or logistical challenges that might hinder the voting process.

The announcement of the final preparations has instilled confidence in the electorate, assuring them that the commission is committed to conducting a transparent and credible election. The people of Edo State can now look forward to exercising their democratic rights and collectively shaping the future of their local communities.

The EDSIEC Chairman reiterated the commission's dedication to ensuring a successful election. He urged the political parties and electorate to abide by the rule of law, exhibit peaceful conduct, and maintain decorum throughout the entire process.

As the date of the election draws nearer, all eyes will be on Edo State, as it sets an example for conducting transparent and peaceful local government polls. The outcome of these elections will not only determine the leadership of each local government but also serve as a testament to the state's commitment to democratic principles and the will of the people.
